Judges2

The messenger of Yahweh came up from the Gilgal to the Bokim, and said: I brought you up from Egypt, and I brought you to the land which I swore to your fathers; and I said, I will not break my covenant with you to the forever.

And you, you will not cut a covenant to the dwellers of this land; their altars you will pull down. But you did not hear in my voice; what is this you made?

And also I said: I will not drive them from your face; and they will be to you for sides, and their God will be to you for a trap.

It happened, as the messenger of Yahweh spoke these words to all the children of Israel, that the people lifted up their sound and wept.

And they called the name of that place Bokim; and they sacrificed there to Yahweh.

Joshua sent the people, and the children of Israel went, each man to his inheritance, to occupy the land.

And the people served Yahweh all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the old men who grew long days after Joshua, who saw all the great work of Yahweh which he made to Israel.

Joshua the son of Nun, the slave of Yahweh, died, a son of a hundred and ten years.

And they interred him in the boundary of his inheritance, in Timnath-serah, in the mountain of Ephraim, from the north of the mountain of Gaash.

And also all that generation were gathered to their fathers; and another generation rose after them, who did not know Yahweh, and also the work which he made to Israel.

And the children of Israel made the evil in the eyes of Yahweh, and served the baals.

And they forsook Yahweh the God of their fathers, that brings forth them from the land of Egypt, and went after another God, from the God of the peoples which were round about them; and they bowed down to them, and provoked Yahweh to anger.

And they forsook Yahweh, and served the baal and the Ashtaroth.

And the anger of Yahweh burned in Israel, and he set them in the hand of plunderers, and they plundered them; and he sold them in the hand of their enemies from round about, and they were not able again to stand to the face of their enemies.

In all which they went forth, the hand of Yahweh was in them to the evil, as Yahweh spoke, and as Yahweh swore to them; and they were distressed exceedingly.

And Yahweh raised judges, and they saved them from the hand of their plunderers.

And also to their judges they did not hear; for they prostituted after another God, and bowed down to them. They removed quickly from the way which their fathers went, to hear the commandments of Yahweh; they did not make so.

And when Yahweh raised to them judges, Yahweh was with that judge, and saved them from the hand of their enemies all the days of that judge; for Yahweh will comfort from their groan, from the face of those who oppressed them and those who oppressed them.

It will happen, in the certainly of that judge, that they will return and corrupt from their fathers, to go after another God, to serve them and to bow down to them; they did not fall from their deeds and from their harsh way.

And the anger of Yahweh burned in Israel; and he said: Because this nation passed over my covenant which I commanded their fathers, and did not listen to my voice,

also I will never occupy a man from their face, from the nations which Joshua forsook and died,

to test in them Israel — will they keep the way of Yahweh, to go in them as their fathers kept, or not?

And Yahweh settled these nations, to the not of occupy them quickly; and he did not set them in the hand of Joshua.
