After Abimelech there rose to save Israel Tola the son of Puah the son of Dodo, a man of Issachar, and he dwelled in Shamir in the mountain of Ephraim.
He judged Israel twenty and three years, and he died, and was interred in Shamir.
After him there rose Jair the Gileadite, and he judged Israel twenty and two years.
He had thirty sons who rode over thirty foals, and they had thirty cities; they call them the Havvoth-Jair, the Hamlets of Jair, to this day, which are in the land of Gilead.
Jair died, and was interred in Kamon.
The children of Israel repeated to make the evil in the eyes of Yahweh, and served the baals and the Ashtaroth, and the God of Aram and the God of Sidon and the God of Moab and the God of the children of Ammon and the God of the Philistines; and they forsook Yahweh and served it not.
The anger of Yahweh burned in Israel, and he sold them in the hand of the Philistines and in the hand of the children of Ammon.
They shattered and struggled Israel in that year; eighteen years all the children of Israel which were on the side of the Jordan in the land of the Amorite which is in Gilead.
The children of Ammon passed over the Jordan to fight also in Judah and in Benjamin and in the house of Ephraim; and Israel was distressed exceedingly.
The children of Israel cried to Yahweh, saying: We sinned against you, for we forsook our God and served the baals.
Yahweh said to the children of Israel: Was it not from Egypt, and from the Amorite, and from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines?
And the Sidonians and Amalek and Maon oppressing you, you cried to me, and I saved you from their hand.
And you forsook me and served another God; so I will never save you.
Go and cry to the God which you chose; they will save you in the time of your distress.
The children of Israel said to Yahweh: We sinned; make you to us as all the good in your eyes; only deliver us this day.
They removed the God of the foreigners from their midst, and served Yahweh; and his living being reaped in the all of Israel.
The children of Ammon were summoned and they encamped in Gilead; the children of Israel gathered and they encamped in Mizpah.
The people, the officials of Gilead, said one to another: Who is the man who will begin to fight in the children of Ammon? He will be to the head to all dwelled in Gilead.
