James4

From where come disputes and from where quarrels among you? Surely from there, out of your passions warring in your members?

You desire and do not have; you kill and covet and are not able to obtain; you quarrel and wrangle; now you have not, because you do not ask;

You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, that you may spend it in your pleasures.

Adulterers and adulteresses! Surely you know that friendship with the world is hostility with God? Therefore whoever may choose to be a dear one of the world is appointed an enemy of God.

Or do you think that the Scripture speaks in vain? The Spirit that he settled in us yearns with envy,

However he gives greater favor; therefore it says: God opposes the proud, however to the humble he gives favor.

Therefore be subjected to God; however resist the accuser and he will flee from you,

Draw near to God and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Be grieved and mourn and weep; your laughter should be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom.

Be humbled in the presence of the Lord and he will exalt you.

Do not speak against one another, brothers; the one who speaks against his brother or judging his brother speaks against the Law and judges the Law; however if you judge the Law, you are not a doer of the Law but a judge.

There is one Lawgiver and Judge, who is being able to rescue and to destroy; however you, who are you who are judging the neighbour?

Come now you who are saying: Today or tomorrow we will go into such a city and will spend there one year and will trade and will make a profit;

You who do not know what is on the next day — what is your life! You are just a vapor, appearing for a little while and then also vanishing;

Instead you ought to say: If the Lord shall wish, we will both live and we will do this or that.

However now you boast in your arrogance; all such boasting is evil.

Therefore to him knowing good to do and not doing it, to him it is sin.
