My brothers, hold not the trust of our Lord Jesus the Anointed One of glory with partiality.
For if there shall come into your assembly a man with a gold ring in splendid apparel, and there may come in also a poor man in shabby apparel,
and you may look upon the one who wears the splendid apparel and may say to him, "You yourself sit here honorably," and may say to the poor, "You yourself stand there, or sit here under my footstool,"
were you not discriminated among yourselves, and have you become judges with evil thoughts?
Listen, my beloved brothers, has not God chosen the poor in this world to be rich in trust and heirs of the kingdom that He promised to those loving Him?
However, you yourselves dishonored the poor. Surely the rich are oppressing you, and they themselves dragging you into court?
Surely they themselves are denigrating the good Name which having been called upon you?
Indeed, if you keep the royal law according to the Scripture, "You will love your neighbour as yourself," you are doing well;
however, if you show partiality, you are committing sin, being convicted by the law as transgressors.
For whoever keeps all the law but stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all.
For He having said, "Do not commit adultery," said also, "Do not murder." However, if you do not commit adultery but do commit murder, you have become a transgressor of the law.
Thus speak and so act, as being about to be judged through the law of freedom.
For judgment without mercy will be to the one not having shown compassion; and compassion triumphs over judgment.
What is the profit, my brothers, if anyone shall say to have trust, however he may not have works? Surely the trust is not able to rescue him?
Now if a brother or a sister shall be without clothes and they may be lacking of daily food,
and anyone of you says to them, "Go in wholeness, be warmed and be filled," however does not give to them the needful things for the body, what is the profit?
So also the trust, unless it shall have works, is dead by itself.
But someone will say, "You yourself have trust, and I myself have works"; show me your trust without your works, and I myself will show you my trust by my works.
You yourself trust that God is one; you are doing well! Even the demons trust that, and shudder!
However, do you want to come to know, O foolish man, that the trust apart from the works is worthless?
Abraham our father, was he not justified by works, having offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
Do you see that his trust was working with his works, and by his works his trust was perfected?
And the Scripture was fulfilled which is saying, "Then Abraham trusted in God, and it was counted to him for righteousness," and a dear one of God he was called.
Therefore you see that by works a man is justified, and not by trust alone.
Then likewise also Rahab the prostitute, was she not justified by works, having received the messengers and having sent them forth by another way?
Just as for the body apart from spirit is dead, so also the trust apart from the works is dead.
