Isaiah8

Yahweh said to me, "Take a large tablet for yourself, and write on it with a man's graving tool: For Maher-shalal-hash-baz.

And I will take reliable witnesses for myself: Uriah the priest and Zechariah son of Jeberekiah."

I drew near to the prophetess, and she conceived and bore a son. Yahweh said to me, "Call his name Maher-shalal-hash-baz.

For before the boy knows how to call out 'My father' and 'My mother,' the wealth of Damascus and the plunder of Samaria will be carried off before the face of the king of Assyria."

Yahweh continued to speak to me again, saying,

Because this people has rejected the waters of the Shiloah that go gently, and takes joy in Rezin and the son of Remaliah;

therefore, behold, the Lord is bringing up over them the waters of the river, the mighty and the great, the king of Assyria and all his weightiness; and it will come up over all its channels and go over all its banks.

And it will pass through Judah; it will overflow and pass over, reaching up to the neck; and the outspread of its wings will be the fullness of the breadth of your land, O Immanu-el.

Be broken, peoples, and be dismayed; give ear, all you distant places of the land; gird yourselves, and be dismayed; gird yourselves, and be dismayed.

Devise a plan, and it will be broken; speak a word, and it will not stand; for God is with us.

For thus Yahweh said to me, with the strength of the hand, and disciplined me from walking in the way of this people, saying,

Do not say 'Conspiracy' to all that this people says 'Conspiracy'; and their fear you must not fear, and you must not hold it in awe.

Yahweh of hosts, him you must set apart; and he will be your fear, and he is the one you hold in awe.

And he will become a sanctuary, and a stone of striking and a rock of stumbling to the two houses of Israel, a trap and a snare to the one dwelling in Jerusalem.

And many among them will stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be ensnared, and be captured.

Bind up the testimony; seal the instruction among my taught ones.

And I will wait for Yahweh, who is hiding his face from the house of Jacob; and I will wait eagerly for him.

Behold, I and the children whom Yahweh has given me are signs and wonders in Israel from Yahweh of hosts, who dwells on the mountain of Zion.

And if they say to you, "Consult the mediums and the spiritists, who chirp and mutter," should not a people consult its God? Should they consult the dead on behalf of the living?

To the instruction and to the testimony! If they do not say according to this word, it is because they have no dawn.

And he will pass through it, hard pressed and hungry; and it will be, when he is hungry, that he will rage, and curse his king and his God, and turn upward.

And to the land he will look, and behold: distress and darkness, the gloom of anguish; and into gloominess he is thrust out.
