Call out with a full throat, do not restrain; like the horn raise your voice; and declare to my people their transgression, and to the house of Jacob their sins.
And day after day they seek me, and they take delight in the knowledge of my ways; like a nation that did righteousness and did not forsake the justice of its God, they ask me for the justice of righteousness, they take delight in the nearness of God.
Why have we fasted, and you have not seen; why have we humbled our being, and you do not know? Behold, on the day of your fast you find delight, and all your toilers you press hard.
Behold, for strife and fighting you fast, and to strike with a wicked fist; you do not fast like this day, to make your voice heard in the height.
Is a fast like this the one I choose, a day for a man to humble his being? To bow down his head like a bulrush, and spread out sackcloth and ashes? Do you call this a fast, a day of pleasure to Yahweh?
Is not this the fast I choose: to loosen the fetters of wickedness, to untie the bands of the yoke, to send the crushed out free, and to tear apart every yoke?
Is it not to break your bread for the hungry, and to bring the poor, the homeless, into the house; when you see the naked, you cover him; and from your own flesh you do not hide yourself?
Then your light will break forth like the dawn, and your healing will sprout quickly; and your righteousness will go before your face, the weightiness of Yahweh will bring up your rear.
Then you will call, and Yahweh will answer; you will cry out, and he will say, Here I am. If you remove the yoke from your midst, the stretched-out finger, and the speaking of wickedness,
and give your being to the hungry, and satisfy the being of the afflicted, then your light will dawn in the darkness, and your gloom will be like the noon.
And Yahweh will lead you continually, and satisfy your being in the scorched regions, and brace up your bones; and you will be like a well-watered garden, and like a spring whose waters do not fail.
And some of you will build the ruins of old; you will raise up the foundations of generation upon generation. And you will be called one who walls up the breach, one who restores paths to dwell in.
If you turn back your foot from the sabbath, from doing your pleasures on my holy day, and you call the sabbath a delight, the holy day of Yahweh honored, and you honor it, refraining from doing your ways, from finding your pleasure, and from speaking a word,
then you will take delight in Yahweh, and I will make you ride on the high places of the land, and I will feed you the inheritance of Jacob your father; for the mouth of Yahweh has spoken.
