¹Shout for joy, barren one who has not borne; break out in a ringing cry and cry shrilly, you who have not writhed in labor; for the children of the desolate one are more numerous than the children of the married woman, says Yahweh.

²Enlarge the place of your tent, and let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings; do not hold back; lengthen your cords and make your pegs strong.

³For to the right and to the left you will break out, and your seed will take possession of nations, and they will cause people to dwell in desolated cities.

⁴Do not fear, for you will not be put to shame; do not be humiliated, for you will not be abashed. For the shame of your youth you will forget, and the reproach of your widowhood you will not remember again.

⁵For your husband is your maker, Yahweh of hosts is his name; and your redeemer is the holy one of Israel; he is called the God of all the land.

⁶For like a wife forsaken and grieved in breath Yahweh has called you, and as a wife of youth when she is rejected, says your God.

⁷For a small moment I forsook you, but with great compassion I will gather you.

⁸In a flood of wrath I hid my face for a moment from you, but with loyal love forever I have had compassion on you, says your redeemer Yahweh.

⁹For this is to me as the waters of Noah: as I swore that the waters of Noah would not again pass over the land, so I have sworn not to be angry at you and not to rebuke you.

¹⁰For the mountains will be removed and the hills will be shaken, but my loyal love will not be removed from you, and my covenant of wholeness will not be shaken, said Yahweh, the one who shows you compassion.

¹¹Poor one, storm-tossed, not comforted, behold, I am laying your stones in kohl, and I will found you on sapphires.

¹²I will make your pinnacles of ruby, and your gates of sparkling stones, and all your boundary of stones of delight.

¹³And all your sons will be taught by Yahweh, and great will be the wholeness of your sons.

¹⁴In righteousness you will be established; be far from oppression, for you will not fear, and from terror, for it will not come near to you.

¹⁵Behold, if anyone stirs up strife, it is nothing from me; whoever stirs up strife with you will fall because of you.

¹⁶Behold, I created the craftsman who blows on the fire of coals and brings out a tool for his work, and I created the spoiler to destroy.

¹⁷No tool formed against you will succeed, and every tongue that rises up against you in justice you will condemn. This is the inheritance of the slaves of Yahweh, and their righteousness is from me, the utterance of Yahweh.
