Listen to me, you who pursue righteousness, you who seek Yahweh: look to the rock you were hewn from, and to the hole of the pit you were dug out of.
Look to Abraham your father, and to Sarah who writhed to bring you forth; for he was one when I called him, and I blessed him, and I multiplied him.
For Yahweh has comforted Zion; he has comforted all her ruins, and has made her wilderness like Eden and her desert plain like the garden of Yahweh; joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the sound of melody.
Give attention to me, my people, and my nation; give ear to me; for instruction will go out from me, and my justice I will settle as a light for the peoples.
Near is my righteousness, my deliverance has gone out, and my arms will judge the peoples; the coastlands wait for me, and for my arm they hope.
Lift up your eyes to the skies, and look to the land beneath; for the skies will vanish like smoke, and the land will wear out like a garment, and those who dwell in her will die like gnats; but my deliverance will be forever, and my righteousness will not be shattered.
Listen to me, you who know righteousness, the people with my instruction in their heart: do not fear the reproach of men, and do not be dismayed at their revilings.
For like a garment the moth will eat them, and like wool the clothes-moth will eat them; but my righteousness will be forever, and my deliverance for generation after generation.
Awake, awake, put on strength, O arm of Yahweh; awake as in the days of long ago, the generations of old. Was it not you who hewed Rahab in pieces, who pierced the sea monster?
Is it not you who dried up the sea, the waters of the great deep, who made the depths of the sea a way for the redeemed to cross?
And the ransomed of Yahweh will return and come to Zion with a ringing cry, and gladness forever will be on their heads; joy and gladness will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee.
I, I am he who comforts you. Who are you that you fear a man who dies, and a child of humankind who is made like grass?
And you forgot Yahweh, who made you, who stretched out the skies and founded the land; and you were in dread continually, all the day, before the burning anger of the oppressor, as he prepared to destroy; and where is the burning anger of the oppressor?
The one who stoops will hasten to be loosened; he will not die in the pit, and his food will not lack.
And I am Yahweh your God, who tosses the sea so that its waves roar; Yahweh of hosts is his name.
And I have put my words in your mouth, and in the shadow of my hand I have covered you, to plant the skies and to found the land, and to say to Zion, You are my people.
Awake, awake, rise, O Jerusalem, you who drank from the hand of Yahweh the cup of his anger; the bowl, the cup of reeling, you drank, you drained out.
There is none to lead her gently among all the children she bore, and there is none to take hold of her hand among all the children she made great.
Two things have befallen you; who will grieve with you? Devastation and breaking, and famine and the sword; by whom shall I comfort you?
Your children have fainted, they lie down at the head of every street, like an antelope in a net, full of the anger of Yahweh, the rebuke of your God.
Therefore hear this, please, afflicted one, drunk but not with wine.
Thus says your lord Yahweh, and your God who contends for his people: Behold, I have taken from your hand the cup of reeling, the bowl, the cup of my anger; you will never drink it again.
And I will put it in the hand of those who torment you, who said to your being, Bow down, that we may pass over; and you made your back like the land, and like the street for those who pass over.
