Let me sing now to my beloved a song of my beloved about his vineyard. My beloved had a vineyard on a horn, a son of oil.
And he dug it over and cleared it of stones, and planted it with the richest vine, and built a tower in the middle of it, and also hewed out a winepress in it; and he waited for it to produce grapes, but it produced wild grapes.
And now, you who dwell in Jerusalem and the man of Judah, please judge between me and between my vineyard.
What is there still to do for my vineyard that I have not done in it? Why, when I waited for it to produce grapes, did it produce wild grapes?
And now, please, let me make known to you what I am about to do to my vineyard: I will remove its hedge, and it will become something to be consumed; I will break down its wall, and it will become a trampling place.
And I will make it a waste; it will not be pruned, and it will not be hoed, and thorns and briers will grow up; and I will command the clouds not to send rain on it.
For the vineyard of Yahweh of hosts is the house of Israel, and the man of Judah is the planting of his delights; and he waited for justice, and behold, bloodshed; for righteousness, and behold, an outcry.
Woe to those who touch house to house, who bring near field to field, until there is no room and you are made to dwell alone in the midst of the land.
In my ears, Yahweh of hosts: surely many houses will become a waste, great and good ones, with no one dwelling.
For ten acres of vineyard will produce one bath, and a homer of seed will produce an ephah.
Woe to those who rise early in the morning to run after strong drink, who linger in the twilight while wine inflames them.
And there are lyre and harp, tambourine and flute, and wine at their feasts; but the deed of Yahweh they do not look at, and the work of his hands they have not seen.
Therefore my people have gone into exile for lack of knowledge, and its weightiness is men of hunger, and its horde is parched with thirst.
Therefore Sheol has widened her being and gaped wide her mouth without limit; her splendor and her horde and her tumult and the one who exults in her go down.
And man is bowed down, and each man is brought low, and the eyes of the haughty are brought low.
And Yahweh of hosts is exalted in justice, and the holy God is set apart in righteousness.
And lambs will graze as in their own pasture, and sojourners will eat the ruins of the fatlings.
Woe to those who draw along guilt with cords of emptiness, and sin as with the rope of a cart.
Those who say, "Let him hurry, let him hasten his work, so that we may see; and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw near and come, so that we may know."
Woe to those who say to evil 'good,' and to good 'evil'; who make darkness into light and light into darkness; who make bitter into sweet and sweet into bitter.
Woe to the wise in their own eyes, and the discerning before their own faces.
Woe to the mighty at drinking wine, and the men of valor at mixing strong drink.
Those who justify the wicked because of a bribe, and remove the righteousness of the righteous from him.
Therefore, as a tongue of fire eats stubble, and dry grass sinks down in the flame, their root will be like rottenness and their blossom will go up like dust; for they have rejected the instruction of Yahweh of hosts, and have spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel.
Therefore the anger of Yahweh has burned against his people, and he stretched out his hand against it and struck it; the mountains quaked, and their carcasses were like refuse in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger has not turned back, and his hand is still stretched out.
He will lift up a banner for the nations from far away, and whistle to it from the end of the land; and look, quickly, swiftly it will come.
There is no one weary and no one stumbling in it; he does not slumber and does not sleep; the belt of his loins is not loosened, and the thong of his sandals is not torn.
whose arrows are sharpened, and all his bows bent; the hooves of his horses are reckoned like hard pebbles, and his wheels like a storm-wind.
He has a roaring like a lion; he roars like young lions; he growls and seizes the prey and carries it off to safety, and there is no one to snatch it away.
And he will growl over it on that day like the growling of the sea; and one will look to the land, and look, darkness, distress; and the light has grown dark in its clouds.
