Hear this, house of Jacob, those who are called by the name of Israel, and who came out from the waters of Judah; who swear by the name of Yahweh and mention the God of Israel, but not in truth, and not in righteousness.
For from the holy city they are called, and they lean on the God of Israel — Yahweh of hosts is his name.
The first things I declared from long ago, and from my mouth they went out, and I let them be heard; suddenly I acted, and they came.
Because I knew that you are hard, and your neck is a sinew of iron, and your forehead is bronze,
I declared them to you from long ago; before it came, I made you hear them, lest you say, "My idol did them, and my image and my molten image commanded them."
You have heard it; look at all of it. And you — will you not declare it? From now I let you hear new things, and things kept secret that you have not known.
Now they have been created, and not long ago; and before today you did not hear them, lest you say, Look, I knew them.
Neither did you hear, nor did you know, nor was your ear opened from long ago; for I knew that you would surely act treacherously, and you were called a rebel from the womb.
For the sake of my name I will make my anger long, and for my praise I will hold back for you, so as not to cut you off.
Look, I have refined you, but not as silver; I have chosen you in the furnace of affliction.
For my own sake, for my own sake I will act; for how will it be profaned? And my weightiness I will not give to another.
Listen to me, Jacob, and Israel, my called one: I am he; I am first, and I am last as well.
Indeed, my hand founded the land, and my right hand spread out the skies; I call to them, and they stand together.
Gather together, all of you, and hear: who among them declared these things? Yahweh loved him; he will do his pleasure on Babylon, and his arm on the Chaldeans.
I, I spoke; I also called him; I brought him, and his way will succeed.
Draw near to me, hear this: from the beginning I have not spoken in secret; from the time it came to be, I was there. And now the Adonai Yahweh has sent me, and his breath.
Thus says Yahweh, your redeemer, the holy one of Israel: I am Yahweh, your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you in the way you should go.
If only you had paid attention to my commandments! Then your wholeness would have been like the river, and your righteousness like the waves of the sea.
Your seed would have been like the sand, and the descendants of your inward parts like its grains; his name would not be cut off, nor be wiped out from before my face.
Go forth from Babylon, flee from the Chaldeans! With the sound of a ringing cry, declare this, make it heard; bring it out to the end of the land; say, "Yahweh has redeemed his slave Jacob."
They did not thirst when he led them through the ruins; he made water flow from the rock for them; he split open the rock, and waters flowed out.
There is no wholeness, says Yahweh, for the wicked.
