Isaiah47

Come down and dwell on the dust, virgin daughter of Babylon; dwell on the land, there is no throne, daughter of the Chaldeans; for they will not again call you tender and pampered.

Take millstones and grind flour; uncover your veil, bare the skirt, uncover the leg, pass over rivers.

Your nakedness will be uncovered, and also your reproach will be seen; I will take vengeance, and I will not meet any man with kindness.

Our redeemer, Yahweh of hosts is his name, the holy one of Israel.

Dwell silent and go into the darkness, daughter of the Chaldeans; for they will not again call you mistress of kingdoms.

I was angry with my people, I profaned my inheritance, and I gave them into your hand; you did not set compassion on them; on the old you made your yoke very heavy.

You said, I will be a mistress forever, so that you did not set these things on your heart; you did not remember its latter end.

And now, hear this, one given to pleasures, who dwells in security, who says in her heart, I, and nothing besides me; I will not dwell as a widow, and I will not know loss of children.

Both of these will come to you in a moment, in one day: loss of children and widowhood; in their completeness they come upon you, in the multitude of your sorceries, in the very great strength of your spells.

And you trusted in your evil; you said, No one sees me; your wisdom and your knowledge, it led you away; and you said in your heart, I, and nothing besides me.

And evil will come upon you; you will not know its dawn. And disaster will fall upon you; you will not be able to cover it over. And suddenly ruin will come upon you, which you will not know.

Stand now in your spells and in the multitude of your sorceries, in which you have labored since your youth; perhaps you will be able to profit, perhaps you will cause trembling.

You have wearied yourself with the multitude of your counsels; let them stand now and save you, those who divide the skies, those who gaze at the stars, those who make known at the new moons what will come upon you.

Look, they have become like stubble; fire has burned them; they will not deliver their being from the hand of the flame. There is no coal to warm themselves, no light to sit in front of.

So they have become to you, those you labored over, your traders from your youth; each one has wandered to his own side; there is no deliverer for you.
