And now hear, Jacob my slave, and Israel whom I chose.
This is what Yahweh said, who made you and formed you from the womb, who will help you: Do not be afraid, my slave Jacob, and Jeshurun whom I chose.
For I will pour out water on the thirsty and streams on the dry ground; I will pour out my spirit on your seed and my blessing on your descendants.
And they will sprout among the grass like willows beside the channels of water.
This one will say, I am Yahweh's, and that one will call out by the name of Jacob, and another will write on his hand, Yahweh's, and will give himself a title by the name of Israel.
This is what Yahweh said, the king of Israel and his redeemer, Yahweh of hosts: I am first and I am last, and besides me there is no God.
And who is like me? Let him call it out, and declare it, and set it in order for me, since I established a people forever; and the things to come, and what will come, let them declare to them.
Do not be in dread, and do not fear; have I not from then made you hear and declared it? And you are my witnesses. Is there a god apart from me? And there is no rock; I know none.
Those who form an idol, all of them are shapeless, and the things they delight in do not profit; and their witnesses, they themselves do not see and do not know, so that they may be ashamed.
Who forms a god and casts an idol for no profit?
Behold, all his companions will be ashamed, and the craftsmen, they are from humankind. Let them gather together, all of them; let them stand up, let them be in dread, let them be ashamed together.
The craftsman of iron, an axe, works it over the coals and forms it with hammers; he works it with the arm of his strength. Also he is hungry, and there is no strength; he has not drunk water, and he grows weary.
The craftsman of wood stretches out a line, outlines it with a stylus, works it with scraping tools, and outlines it with a compass; he makes it like the pattern of a man, like the beauty of a human, to dwell in a house.
He cuts down cedars for himself; he takes a cypress and an oak and lets it grow strong for himself among the trees of the forest; he plants a fir, and the rain makes it grow great.
And it serves a person for burning; he takes some of them and warms himself; also he kindles a fire and bakes bread; also he makes a god and bows down; he makes it an idol and prostrates himself to it.
Half of it he burns in the fire; over half of it he eats flesh, he roasts a roast and is satisfied; also he warms himself and says, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the light.
And the remainder of it he makes into a god, into his idol; he prostrates himself to it, and bows down and prays to it, and says, Deliver me, for you are my god.
They do not know and they do not discern, for he has plastered over their eyes, so they cannot see, and their hearts, so they cannot act wisely.
He does not bring it back to his heart, and there is no knowledge and no understanding to say, Half of it I burned in a fire, and also I baked bread on its coals; I roast flesh and eat it; and the rest of it shall I make into an abomination? Shall I prostrate myself to a block of wood?
He grazes on ashes; a heart that was deceived has turned him aside, and he will not deliver his being, and he will not say, Is it not falsehood in my right hand?
Remember these things, Jacob, and Israel, for you are my slave; I formed you, you are a slave to me; Israel, you will not be forgotten by me.
I have wiped out your transgressions like a dark cloud, and your sins like a cloud mass; return to me, for I have redeemed you.
Shout for joy, O skies, for Yahweh has acted; raise a shout, O lower parts of the land; break forth, O mountains, into a ringing cry, O forest and every tree in it; for Yahweh has redeemed Jacob, and in Israel he will show his beauty.
This is what Yahweh said, your redeemer, the one who formed you from the womb: I am Yahweh, who made everything, who stretched out the skies alone, who hammered out the land by myself;
who breaks up the signs of the empty talkers and makes fools of the diviners, who turns the wise backward, and their knowledge he makes foolish,
who makes stand the word of his slave and completes the counsel of his messengers; who says of Jerusalem, She will be dwelt in, and of the cities of Judah, They will be rebuilt, and her ruins I will raise up;
who says to the deep, Be parched, and your rivers I will dry up;
who says of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and all my desire he will complete; and saying of Jerusalem, She will be rebuilt, and of the temple, It will be founded.
