Look, my slave, whom I hold up; my chosen one, whom my being is pleased with. I have put my breath on him; he will bring out justice to the nations.
He will not cry out, and will not lift up his voice, and will not make it heard in the street.
A crushed reed he will not break, and a dim wick he will not quench; in faithfulness he will bring out justice.
He will not grow dim, and will not be crushed, until he sets justice in the land; and the coastlands will wait for his instruction.
Thus says God Yahweh, who is creating the skies and stretching them out, who hammers out the land and its offspring, who gives breath to the people on it, and breath to those who walk on it.
I, Yahweh, have called you in righteousness; I take hold of your hand, and guard you; and I set you as a covenant for the people, as a light for the nations,
to open blind eyes, to bring out the prisoner from the dungeon, and those who dwell in darkness from the house of confinement.
I am Yahweh; that is my name; and my weightiness I will not give to another, nor my praise to idols.
Look, the former things have come, and new things I am telling; before they spring up, I will make you hear them.
Sing to Yahweh a new song, his praise from the end of the land, you who go down to the sea and what fills it, you coastlands and those who dwell in them.
Let the wilderness and its cities lift up, the courts where Kedar dwells; let those who dwell in Sela shout for joy, let them cry aloud from the top of the mountains.
Let them give weightiness to Yahweh, and declare his praise in the coastlands.
Yahweh will go out like a warrior, like a man of wars he will rouse jealousy; he will raise a shout, even roar; over his enemies he will prevail.
Since forever I have hushed; I have kept silent, I have held myself back; like a woman giving birth I will groan, I will pant and gasp together.
I will lay waste mountains and hills, and all their grass I will dry up; and I will make the rivers into coastlands, and the pools I will dry up.
I will lead the blind by a way they have not known; by paths they have not known I will make them tread; I will make the dark place before them into light, and the crooked places into level ground. These are the words I will do, and I will not forsake them.
They will be turned backward, they will be ashamed with shame, those who trust in the idol, who say to the molten image, You are our gods.
You deaf ones, hear; and you blind ones, look, so that you may see.
Who is blind except my slave, and deaf like my messenger whom I send? Who is blind like the one in covenant, and blind like the slave of Yahweh?
You have seen many things, but you do not keep them; the ears are open, but he does not hear.
Yahweh took delight, for the sake of his righteousness, to make great the instruction, and make it glorious.
And this is a people spoiled and plundered, all of them trapped in dens, and hidden in houses of prisons; they have become spoil with no one to deliver, plunder with no one who says, Give back.
Who among you will give ear to this, will pay attention and listen for what comes after?
Who gave Jacob over to plunder, and Israel to the plunderers? Was it not Yahweh, against whom we sinned? They were not willing to walk in his ways, and they did not listen to his instruction.
So he poured out on him the heat of his anger and the fierceness of battle; it set him ablaze all around, yet he did not know; it burned in him, yet he did not take it to heart.
