Be silent to me, O coastlands, and let the peoples renew their strength; let them draw near, then let them speak; together let us come near for justice.
Who awoke righteousness from the east, will call it to his foot? He will give nations before his face and subdue kings; he will give them as the dust to his sword, his bow as the driven stubble.
He will pursue them, he will pass on in wholeness, along a path his feet do not come on.
Who has done it and brought it about, calling the generations from the beginning? I, Yahweh, am first, and with the last I am he.
The coastlands have seen and are afraid; the ends of the land tremble; they have drawn near and have come.
Each man helps his companion, and to his brother he says, "Be strong."
The craftsman encourages the metalsmith; the one who smooths with the hammer encourages the one who strikes the anvil, saying of the joint, "It is good." He makes it firm with nails, so that it will not be shaken.
And you, Israel, my slave, Jacob, whom I have chosen, seed of Abraham, my friend,
whom I took hold of from the ends of the land, and from its corners I called you; and I said to you, "You are my slave; I have chosen you and have not rejected you."
Do not be afraid, for I am with you; do not look about, for I am your God. I have strengthened you, and also I have helped you, and also I have held you up with the right hand of my righteousness.
Look, all who burn with anger at you will be ashamed and humiliated; they will be as nothing and will perish, the men of your strife.
You will seek them, but you will not find them, the men of your quarrel; the men of your war will be as nothing and as nonexistent.
For I, Yahweh your God, grasp your right hand, the one who says to you, "Do not be afraid; I will help you."
Do not be afraid, worm of Jacob, you men of Israel; I will help you, the utterance of Yahweh, and your redeemer is the holy one of Israel.
Look, I have made you into a threshing sledge, sharp and new, with teeth; you will thresh the mountains and crush them, and you will make the hills like chaff.
You will winnow them, and a wind will carry them away, and a storm will scatter them; and you will rejoice in Yahweh, and in the holy one of Israel you will boast.
The poor and the needy are seeking water, and there is none; their tongue is dry with thirst. I, Yahweh, will answer them; I, the God of Israel, will not forsake them.
I will open rivers on the bare heights, and springs in the middle of the valleys; I will make the wilderness into a pool of water, and a dry land into springs of water.
I will put cedar in the wilderness, acacia, and myrtle, and the tree of oil; I will set cypress in the desert plain, pine, and box together,
so that they may see and know, and put it together, and act wisely, that the hand of Yahweh has made this, and the holy one of Israel has created it.
Bring your dispute near, says Yahweh; bring your defences forward, says the king of Jacob.
Let them bring them near and tell us what will befall. The former things, what are they? Tell, so that we may set our heart on it and know their latter end; or make us hear the things that come.
Tell the things that are coming afterward, and we will know that you are gods; yes, do good, and do harm, and let us gaze and see together.
Look, you are nothing, and your work is nothing; an abomination is the one who chooses you.
I have roused one from the north, and he has come; from the place of the sun's rising he calls on my name; and he comes upon officials like mortar, and as a potter tramples mud.
Who declared it from the beginning, so that we may know, and from before, so that we may say, He is righteous? No, there was no one declaring, no, no one making it heard, no, no one hearing your words.
First to Zion: Look, look at them! And to Jerusalem I will give a bearer of news.
I looked, and there was no one; and among these there was no counselor, that I might ask them, and they would give back a word.
Look, all of them are trouble; their works are nothing; their molten images are wind and emptiness.
