Come near, nations, to hear; peoples, pay attention. Let the land hear, and its fullness, the world and all its offspring.
For wrath is Yahweh's against all the nations, and rage against all their host; he has put them under the ban, he has given them to the slaughter.
Their slain will be thrown out, and their corpses; their stench will go up, and the mountains will melt from their blood.
All the host of the skies will rot away, and the skies will be rolled up like a scroll; all their host will wither, as a leaf withers from the vine, and like what withers from the fig tree.
For my sword has been drenched in the skies; look, it will come down on Edom, and on the people I have devoted to destruction, for justice.
A sword is Yahweh's, full of blood; it has fattened itself on fat, on the blood of lambs and goats, on the fat of the kidneys of rams; for Yahweh has a sacrifice in Bozrah, and a great slaughter in the land of Edom.
And wild oxen will go down with them, and young bulls with the mighty ones; their land will drink its fill of blood, and their dust will be fattened with fat.
For Yahweh has a day of vengeance, a year of requitals for Zion's dispute.
Its wadis will be turned into pitch, and its dust into sulfur; its land will become burning pitch.
Night and day it will not go out; its smoke will go up forever; from generation to generation it will lie desolate; for perpetuity upon perpetuity, no one will pass through it.
Pelican and porcupine will possess it; heron and raven will dwell in it. He will stretch over it the line of formlessness and the stones of emptiness.
Her nobles—none are there to call a kingdom—and all her officials will be nothing.
And thorns will spring up in her palaces, nettles and brambles in her fortifications; and it will be a habitation of jackals, a haunt for the daughters of the ostrich.
Desert-dwellers will meet howlers, and the goat will call to its companion; surely there the night-hag will rest, and find for herself a resting place.
There the arrow-snake will nest, lay eggs, split them open, and gather her brood in her shadow; surely there the falcons will be gathered, each with her companion.
Seek from the scroll of Yahweh and read: not one of these is missing; no one has missed her companion. For my mouth, it has commanded, and his breath, it has gathered them.
And he himself has cast the lot for them, and his hand has apportioned it to them by the line; forever they will possess it, from generation to generation they will dwell in it.
