The oracle of the valley of vision. What is it with you, then, that all of you have gone up to the roofs?
Full of clamor, a turbulent city, a jubilant town: your slain are not slain by the sword, nor dead in battle.
All your commanders fled together; by the bow they were taken prisoner. All who were found among you were bound together; from afar they fled.
Therefore I said, Look away from me, I will weep bitterly; do not press to comfort me over the devastation of the daughter of my people.
For it is a day of panic, trampling, and confusion for the Adonai Yahweh of hosts, in the valley of vision: a breaking down of the wall, and a cry to the mountain.
And Elam lifted up the quiver, with chariotry of men, horsemen; and Kir uncovered the shield.
And it came to be that the choicest of your valleys were full of chariotry, and the horsemen took their stand at the gate.
He uncovered the screen of Judah, and you looked in that day to the weapons of the House of the Forest.
And you saw the cracks in the city of David, that they were many, and you gathered together the waters of the lower pool.
And you counted the houses of Jerusalem, and you pulled down the houses to fortify the wall.
And a reservoir you made between the two walls for the water of the old pool, but you did not look to the one who made it, and the one who planned it from long ago you did not see.
And the Adonai Yahweh of hosts called in that day to weeping and to lament and to baldness and to girding on sackcloth.
And look: joy and gladness, killing cattle and slaughtering flock, eating flesh and drinking wine: "Eat and drink, for tomorrow we will die!"
And Yahweh of hosts uncovered in my ears: "This guilt will not be covered for you until you die," said the Adonai Yahweh of hosts.
Thus says the Adonai Yahweh of hosts: Go, go in to this attendant, to Shebna, who is over the house:
What do you have here, and who do you have here, that you have hewn out for yourself here a tomb, hewing out his tomb on the height, carving a dwelling in the crag for himself?
Look, Yahweh is about to hurl you away with a hurling, O man, and to wrap you up completely.
He will surely wind you up with a winding, like a ball, into a land broad on both hands. There you will die, and there will be the chariots of your weightiness, the shame of the house of your lord.
And I will thrust you from your station, and from your post he will tear you down.
And it will be in that day that I will call my servant, Eliakim, son of Hilkiah,
And I will clothe him in your tunic, and your sash I will make firm on him, and your dominion I will put into his hand; and he will become a father to those who dwell in Jerusalem and to the house of Judah.
And I will set the key of the house of David on his shoulder; and he will open, and there will be no one who shuts; and he will shut, and there will be no one who opens.
And I will drive him in as a peg in a firm place, and he will become a throne of weightiness for the house of his father.
And they will hang on him all the weightiness of the house of his father, the descendants and the offshoots, all the small vessels, from the vessels of the basins even to all the vessels of the jars.
In that day, the utterance of Yahweh of hosts, the peg that was driven into a firm place will be removed; it will be hewn off and fall; and the load that was on it will be cut off, for Yahweh has spoken.
