The burden of Egypt. Look, Yahweh is riding on a swift cloud and will come to Egypt; the idols of Egypt will shake before his face, and the heart of Egypt will melt within it.
And I will entangle Egypt against Egypt, and they will fight, a man against his brother and a man against his neighbor, city against city, kingdom against kingdom.
The breath of Egypt will be emptied out within it, and I will swallow down its counsel; and they will inquire of the idols and the mutterers and the mediums and the spiritists.
And I will shut Egypt up in the hand of a harsh lord, and a fierce king will rule over them, the utterance of the lord Yahweh of hosts.
The waters will dry up from the sea, and the river will be parched and dry.
And they will forsake the rivers; the channels of Egypt will sink low and dry up; the reed and the rush will wither.
The bare plots beside the River, at the mouth of the River, and all the sown land of the River will dry up, be driven away, and be no more.
The fishermen will lament, and all who cast a hook into the River will mourn, and those who spread a net on the face of the waters will languish.
Those who work combed flax will be ashamed, as will those who weave white cloth.
Her foundations will be crushed; all who work for wages will be grieved in their being.
Surely the officials of Zoan are fools, the wise counselors of Pharaoh; their counsel has become brutish. How can you say to Pharaoh, 'I am a son of the wise, a son of kings of old'?
Where are they, then, your wise ones? Let them tell you, please, and let them know what Yahweh of hosts has resolved concerning Egypt.
The officials of Zoan have become fools; the officials of Memphis have been deceived; they have led Egypt astray, the corner of her tribes.
Yahweh has mixed within her a breath of distortions, and they have led astray Egypt in all its work, like a drunkard staggering in his vomit.
And there will be no work for Egypt that head and tail, palm branch and rush might do.
In that day Egypt will be like women, and will shudder and be in dread before the brandishing of the hand of Yahweh of hosts, which he waves over it.
And the ground of Judah will become a terror to Egypt; everyone who mentions it to him will be in dread because of the plan of Yahweh of hosts, which he is resolving against it.
In that day, there will be five cities in the land of Egypt speaking the lip of Canaan and swearing to Yahweh of hosts; one will be called the City of Destruction.
In that day there will be an altar to Yahweh in the middle of the land of Egypt, and a pillar to Yahweh beside its border.
It will be a sign and a witness to Yahweh of hosts in the land of Egypt; for they will cry out to Yahweh because of oppressors, and he will send them a deliverer and one who contends, and he will rescue them.
And Yahweh will make himself known to Egypt, and Egypt will know Yahweh in that day; they will serve with sacrifice and grain offering, and vow a vow to Yahweh and pay it.
And Yahweh will strike Egypt, striking and healing; and they will turn back to Yahweh, and he will listen to their prayer and heal them.
In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria; Assyria will come into Egypt, and Egypt into Assyria, and Egypt will serve Assyria.
In that day Israel will be a third with Egypt and with Assyria, a blessing in the midst of the land,
whom Yahweh of hosts has blessed, saying, 'Blessed be my people Egypt, and the work of my hands Assyria, and my inheritance Israel.'
