The vision of Isaiah son of Amoz, which he saw over Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.
Hear, skies, and give ear, land, for Yahweh has spoken: Children I made great and raised high, yet they have rebelled against me.
The ox knows its owner, and the donkey the manger of its lord; Israel does not know, my people do not consider.
Woe, sinning nation, a people heavy with guilt, seed of evildoers, children who act corruptly! They have forsaken Yahweh, they have spurned the Holy One of Israel, they have become estranged, gone backward.
Why will you be struck again, as you keep adding rebellion? The whole head is sick, and the whole heart is faint.
From the sole of the foot to the head there is no soundness in it, only wound and stripe and fresh blow, not pressed out, not bound up, not softened with oil.
Your land is a wasteland, your cities burned with fire; your ground, before you, foreigners are eating it, a wasteland like the overthrow of foreigners.
And the daughter of Zion is left like a shelter in a vineyard, like a hut in a cucumber field, like a city blockaded.
Unless Yahweh of hosts had left us a survivor, just a little, we would have been like Sodom, we would have resembled Gomorrah.
Hear the word of Yahweh, you commanders of Sodom; give ear to the instruction of our God, you people of Gomorrah.
What is the multitude of your sacrifices to me? says Yahweh. I am sated with burnt offerings of rams and the fat of fatlings; in the blood of bulls and lambs and goats I take no delight.
When you come to appear before my face, who required this from your hand, this trampling of my courts?
Do not go on bringing an empty grain offering; incense, it is an abomination to me. New moon and sabbath, the calling of a convocation, I cannot bear iniquity along with assembly.
My being hates your new moons and your appointed times; they have become a burden to me; I am weary of bearing them.
When you spread out your palms, I hide my eyes from you; even when you multiply prayer, I am not listening; your hands are full of bloodshed.
Wash, make yourselves clean; remove the wickedness of your deeds from before my eyes; cease doing evil.
Learn to do good, seek justice, set right the oppressor, judge for the fatherless, contend for the widow.
Come now, and let us argue our case, says Yahweh: though your sins are like scarlet, they will become white like snow; though they are red like crimson, they will be like wool.
If you are willing and you obey, you will eat the good of the land.
But if you refuse and rebel, you will be eaten by the sword; for the mouth of Yahweh has spoken.
How the faithful city has become a prostitute! She was full of justice, righteousness would lodge in her, and now murderers!
Your silver has become dross, your drink is diluted with water.
Your officials are stubborn and companions of thieves; every one of them is loving a bribe and running after bribes. They do not judge the fatherless, and the lawsuit of the widow does not come to them.
Therefore the utterance of the Lord, Yahweh of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel: Ah, I will ease myself of my foes, and I will avenge myself on my enemies.
And I will turn my hand against you, and refine your dross as with lye, and remove all your tin.
And I will restore your judges as at first, and your counselors as at the beginning; afterward you will be called the city of righteousness, a faithful town.
Zion will be redeemed with justice, and those of her who turn back with righteousness.
And a crushing of rebels and sinners together, and those who forsake Yahweh will come to an end.
For they will be ashamed of the pillars that you desired, and you will be abashed by the gardens that you chose.
For you will be like a terebinth whose leaf is withering, and like a garden that has no water.
And the strong one will become tow, and his work a spark; both of them will burn together, with no one to quench it.
