Come, let us return to Yahweh, for he has torn to pieces and he will heal us; he has struck and he will bind us up.
He will revive us after two days; on the third day he will raise us up, and we will live before him.
And let us know, let us pursue knowing Yahweh; his going forth is fixed like the dawn, and he will come like the rain to us, like the spring rain that showers the land.
What shall I do to you, O Ephraim? What shall I do to you, O Judah? And your loyal love is like a morning cloud, like the dew that rises early and goes away.
Therefore I have cut them in pieces by the prophets; I have killed them by the words of my mouth, and your justice goes forth as light.
For I delight in loyal love and not sacrifice, and in the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.
But they, like Adam, passed over the covenant; there they betrayed me.
Gilead is a city of those who work iniquity, foot-tracked with blood.
And like marauding bands lying in wait for a man, the gang of priests murder on the way toward Shechem; for they have done depravity.
In the house of Israel I have seen a horrible thing; there is the unfaithfulness of Ephraim; Israel is defiled.
Also for you, O Judah, he has set a harvest, when I turn back the captivity of my people.
