Hebrews11

Now trust is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not being seen.

For in this the ancients were commended.

By trust we understand the ages to have been formed by the word of God, so that the thing being seen became not out of things being visible.

By trust Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, through which he was testified to be righteous, God bearing witness to his gifts; and through it, when he had died, he still speaks.

By trust Enoch was translated, not to see death, and he was not found because God took him up; for before his translation he has been commended to have pleased God.

Now without trust it is impossible to please Him; for it behooves the one drawing near to God to trust that He exists and that He becomes a rewarder to those earnestly seeking Him out.

By trust Noah, when he had been divinely instructed concerning the things not yet seen, having been moved with fear, prepared an ark for the salvation of his household, through which he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is according to trust.

By trust Abraham, being called, obeyed to go out into a place that he was going to receive for an inheritance, and went out not knowing where he is going.

By trust he sojourned in the land of the promise as in a foreign country, having dwelt in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the joint-heirs of the same promise;

for he was awaiting the city having the foundations, of which the architect and builder is God.

By trust Sarah herself also, being barren, received power for the conception of seed even beyond the opportune age, and she brought forth, since she considered the One having promised faithful.

Therefore also from one man, and he as good as dead, were born even as the stars of the sky in multitude and as the countless sand by the shore of the sea.

In trust these all died, not having received the promises, but had seen them from afar and had been persuaded and having embraced them, and had confessed that they are strangers and sojourners on the land.

For those saying such things make manifest that they are seeking their country.

And if indeed they were remembering that one from where they came out, they would then have had opportunity to return;

but now they stretch forward to a better one, that is, to a heavenly one; therefore God is not ashamed of them, to be called their God; indeed He has prepared for them a city.

By trust Abraham, being tested, has offered up Isaac, and the one having received the promises was offering up his only begotten son,

as to whom it was said that in Isaac will your offspring be reckoned;

having reasoned that God was able to raise even out from the dead, from where he also received him in a simile.

By trust Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau also concerning the things coming.

By trust Jacob, dying, blessed each of the sons of Joseph and worshiped on the top of his staff.

By trust Joseph, dying, made mention concerning the exodus of the sons of Israel and gave instructions concerning his bones.

By trust Moses, when he had been born, was hidden three months by his parents, because they saw the little child was beautiful, and they did not fear the edict of the king.

By trust Moses, having become grown, refused to be named the son of the daughter of Pharaoh,

rather having chosen to suffer affliction with the people of God than to have the temporary enjoyment of sin,

having esteemed the reproach of the Anointed One greater wealth than the treasures in Egypt; for he was looking toward the reward.

By trust he left Egypt, not having feared the anger of the king; for he persevered as seeing the Invisible One.

By trust he has kept the Passover and the sprinkling of the blood, so that the one who destroys the firstborn may not touch them.

By trust they passed through the Red Sea as through dry land, which, the Egyptians having made an attempt, they were swallowed up.

By trust the walls of Jericho fell, having been encircled for seven days.

By trust Rahab the prostitute did not perish with those who disobeyed, having received the spies with peace.

And what more shall I say? For the time will fail me telling of Gideon, Barak, and Samson, and Jephthah, David also and Samuel and the prophets;

who through trust conquered kingdoms, administered justice, obtained promises, shut the mouths of lions,

quenched the power of fire, escaped the blades of the sword, were empowered out of weakness, became mighty in war, put to flight the armies of foreigners.

Women received back their dead by resurrection; then others were tortured, not having accepted the release, so that they may obtain a better resurrection;

then others received trial of mockings and of scourgings, in addition also of chains and imprisonment;

they were stoned, they were sawed in two, tested, they were killed by slaughter of the sword; they wandered in sheepskins, in goats' skins, being destitute, being oppressed, being mistreated,

of whom the world was not worthy; wandering in deserts and in mountains and in caves and in the holes of the land.

And these all, having been commended through the trust, did not receive the promise,

God having planned something better for us, so that not apart from us they may be made perfect.
