In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, on the first day of the month, the word of Yahweh was in the hand of Haggai the prophet to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, the governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the great priest, saying:
Thus said Yahweh of hosts, saying: This people has said, The time has not come, the time for the house of Yahweh to be built.
There was the word of Yahweh in the hand of Haggai the prophet, saying:
Is it time for you to dwell in your houses set, and the house dry?
And now thus said Yahweh of hosts: Put your heart over your ways.
You bore multiplied and brought in little; you eat, and there is not enough; you drink, and there is not to drink; you clothe yourselves, and there is no one who waxes warm; and he who earns wages earns wages to pebble bore.
Thus said Yahweh of hosts: Put your heart over your ways.
Come up the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will be received in it, said Yahweh, and be honored.
You turned to multiplied, and behold, to the little; and what you brought to the house, I blew on it. Because of what? the utterance of Yahweh of hosts. Because of my house which is dry, while you run, every man to his own house.
Over you, therefore, the skies restrained the dew, and the land restrained her produce.
And I called a heat over the land, and over the mountains, and over the grain, and over the new wine, and over the oil, and over what the ground brings out, and over the man, and over the livestock, and over all the toil of the palms.
Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak the great priest, and all the remnant of the people heard the sound of Yahweh their God and the words of Haggai the prophet, as Yahweh their God had sent him; and the people feared from the face of Yahweh.
Then Haggai, the messenger of Yahweh, said to the people in the lordship of Yahweh, saying: I am with you, the utterance of Yahweh.
And Yahweh awoke the breath of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, the governor of Judah, and the breath of Joshua the son of Jehozadak the great priest, and the breath of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work in the house of Yahweh of hosts their God,
on the twenty-fourth day of the month, in the sixth, in the second year of Darius the king.
