A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, on rambling songs.
Yahweh, I have heard the report of you, and I was afraid. Yahweh, your work: in the midst of the years give it life; in the midst of the years make it known; in wrath, remember to have compassion.
God comes from Teman, and the holy one from the mountain of Paran. Selah. His splendor covered the skies, and his praise filled the land.
And brightness like the light will come about; rays from his hand are his, and there is the hiding place of his strength.
Pestilence goes before him, and a live coal goes out at his feet.
He stood and shook the land; he looked and made the nations leap; the everlasting mountains were shattered, the hills of forever bowed down; the ways of forever are his.
Under trouble I saw the tents of Cushan; the curtains of the land of Midian trembled.
Did it burn against the rivers, Yahweh? Or was your anger against the rivers, or your fury against the sea, that you ride on your horses, your chariots of deliverance?
Your bow is stripped completely bare; the oaths to the tribes, a word. Selah. You split open the land with rivers.
The mountains saw you and writhed; a downpour of the waters swept past; the deep gave its voice and lifted its hands on high.
Sun and moon stood still in their lofty dwelling; by the light of your arrows they go, by the brightness of the lightning flash of your spear.
In fury you stride through the land; in anger you thresh the nations.
You went out for the deliverance of your people, for the deliverance of your anointed; you shattered the head from the house of the wicked, laying bare the foundation up to the neck. Selah.
You pierced with his own staffs the head of his warriors; they stormed to scatter me, their exultation as if to devour the afflicted in the hiding place.
You trod the sea with your horses, a heap of great waters.
I heard, and my belly shook; at the sound my lips quivered. Rot comes into my bones, and under me I shake; yet I will rest for the day of distress, for the coming up of a people to attack us.
Though the fig tree does not bud and there is no produce on the vines, the work of the olive fails and the fields yield no food, the flock is cut off from the fold and there is no cattle in the stalls.
Yet I will exult in Yahweh, I will rejoice in the God of my deliverance.
Yahweh, the Lord, is my strength; he makes my feet like the does' and has me tread upon my high places. For the choirmaster, with my stringed music.
