Habakkuk2

I will stand at my post and take my stand on the fortress, and I will keep watch to see what he will speak with me, and what I will bring back about my reproof.

Yahweh answered me and said, "Write down the vision, and make it plain on the tablets, so that the one who reads it may run."

For the vision is still for the appointed time, and it pants toward the end and does not lie. If it lingers, wait for it, for it will surely come; it will not delay.

Look, the heedless one: his being is not upright within him; but the righteous will live by his faithfulness.

And how much more, for wine is treacherous: an arrogant man, and he does not stay at home— he who has made his being as wide as Sheol; and he, like death, is never satisfied. He gathers to himself all the nations and collects to himself all the peoples.

Will not all of these take up a saying against him, a mocking song, riddles about him, and one will say, "Woe to the one who piles up what is not his— how long?— and weighs himself down with pledges!"

Will not those who charge you interest suddenly rise up, and those who make you tremble wake, and you become plunder for them?

Because you have plundered many nations, all the rest of the peoples will plunder you, because of human blood and the violence done to the land, to the town and to all those who dwell in it.

Woe to the one who gains evil profit for his house, to set his nest on high, to snatch himself out of the hand of evil!

You have planned shame for your house by cutting off many peoples, and you are sinning against your own being.

For a stone will cry out from the wall, and a rafter from the wood will answer it.

Woe to the one who builds a city with blood and establishes a town on injustice!

Look, is it not from Yahweh of hosts that peoples toil for only fire, and peoples wear themselves out for only emptiness?

For the land will be filled with knowing the weightiness of Yahweh, as waters cover over the sea.

Woe to the one who makes his neighbor drink, joining your rage to it and even making them drunk, so as to look on their nakedness!

You have been sated with shame rather than weightiness. Drink, you too, and be counted as uncircumcised! The cup of the right hand of Yahweh will come around to you, and utter disgrace will be over your weightiness.

For the violence done to Lebanon will cover you, and the devastation of the animals will terrify them, because of the blood of man and the violence done to the land, to the city, and to all those who dwell in it.

What has the idol profited, that the one who formed it has carved it, a molten image, and one who teaches falsehood, that the one who formed his own form has trusted in it, to make mute idols?

Woe to the one who says to wood, "Wake up!" and to a silent stone, "Rouse yourself!" Will it teach? Look, it is overlaid with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in its midst.

But Yahweh is in his holy temple; hush before his face, all the land.
