Genesis47

Joseph came and told Pharaoh, "My father and my brothers, with their flock and their cattle and all that is theirs, have come from the land of Canaan; and here they are in the land of Goshen."

From the end of his brothers he took five men, and set them before the face of Pharaoh.

Pharaoh said to his brothers, "What is your work?" They said to Pharaoh, "Your servants are shepherds of the flock, both we and our fathers."

They said to Pharaoh, "We have come to sojourn in the land, for there is no pasture for the flock that belongs to your servants, for the famine is heavy in the land of Canaan; and now, please, let your servants dwell in the land of Goshen."

Pharaoh said to Joseph, "Your father and your brothers have come to you."

The land of Egypt is before your face; in the best of the land make your father and your brothers dwell. Let them dwell in the land of Goshen; and if you know there are men of strength among them, then set them as officials of the livestock over what is mine."

Joseph brought Jacob his father in, and made him stand before the face of Pharaoh; and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.

Pharaoh said to Jacob, "How many are the days of the years of your life?"

Jacob said to Pharaoh, "The days of the years of my sojourning are a hundred and thirty years; few and bad have been the days of the years of my life, and they have not reached the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their sojourning."

Jacob blessed Pharaoh, and went out from the face of Pharaoh.

Joseph made his father and his brothers dwell, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, just as Pharaoh had commanded.

Joseph sustained his father and his brothers and all the house of his father with food, according to the mouths of the children.

There was no food in all the land, for the famine was very heavy; the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan were exhausted from the face of the famine.

Joseph gathered up all the silver that was found in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan, for the grain that they were buying; and Joseph brought the silver into the house of Pharaoh.

The silver was used up from the land of Egypt and from the land of Canaan, and all the Egyptians came to Joseph, saying, "Give us food; why should we die before you, for the silver has run out?"

Joseph said, "Give your livestock, and I will give to you in exchange for your livestock, if the silver has run out."

They brought their livestock to Joseph, and Joseph gave them food in exchange for the horses, and for the livestock of the flock, and for the livestock of the cattle, and for the donkeys; and he guided them with food in exchange for all their livestock that year.

That year was finished, and they came to him in the second year and said to him, "We will not hide from my lord that the silver is finished and the livestock of the animals are my lord's; nothing is left before my lord except our bodies and our ground.

Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our ground? Buy us and our ground for food, and we and our ground will be slaves to Pharaoh; and give seed, so that we may live and not die, and the ground not become desolate."

Joseph bought all the ground of Egypt for Pharaoh, for the Egyptians each sold his field, for the famine took hold of them; and the land became Pharaoh's.

As for the people, he brought them over to the cities, from one end of Egypt's border to the other end of it.

Only the ground of the priests he did not buy, for the priests had an allotment from Pharaoh, and they ate their allotment that Pharaoh gave them; therefore they did not sell their ground.

Joseph said to the people, "Look, today I have bought you and your ground for Pharaoh. Here is seed for you; and you will sow the ground."

And it will be, at the harvests you shall give a fifth to Pharaoh, and the four parts shall be yours, for the seed of the field, and for your food, and for those who are in your households, and for eating, and for your children.

They said, "You have kept us alive; may we find favor in the eyes of my lord, and we will be slaves to Pharaoh."

Joseph set it as an enactment, to this day, over the ground of Egypt: to Pharaoh, a fifth part. Only the ground of the priests alone did not become Pharaoh's.

Israel dwelled in the land of Egypt, in the land of Goshen; they took hold in it, were fruitful, and multiplied exceedingly.

Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years; and the days of Jacob, the years of his life, were a hundred and forty-seven years.

The days of Israel drew near to die, and he summoned his son Joseph and said to him, "If I have found favor in your eyes, please put your hand under my thigh, and deal with me in loyal love and stability: please do not bury me in Egypt.

When I lie down with my fathers, you shall carry me out of Egypt and bury me in their tomb." He said, "I will do according to your word."

He said, "Swear to me." And he swore to him, and Israel bowed down at the head of the bed.
