Genesis41

It happened, at the end of two years of days, that Pharaoh was dreaming, and look, he was standing beside the Channel.

And look, from the Channel came up seven heifers, beautiful of look and fatted of flesh, and they grazed among the reeds.

And look, seven other heifers were coming up after them from the Channel, bad of look and crushed of flesh, and they stood beside the heifers on the edge of the Channel.

And the heifers bad of look and crushed of flesh ate the seven heifers beautiful of look and fatted, and Pharaoh woke.

He slept and dreamed a second time, and look, seven ears of grain were coming up on one stalk, fat and good.

And look, seven ears of grain, crushed and blighted by the east wind, were sprouting up after them.

And the crushed ears of grain swallowed down the seven fatted and full ears of grain, and Pharaoh woke, and look, it was a dream.

It happened in the morning that his breath was disturbed, and he sent and summoned all the diviners of Egypt and all her wise men, and Pharaoh recounted his dream to them, but there was no one to open them up for Pharaoh.

Then the chief of the butlers spoke to Pharaoh, saying, I am bringing my sins to mind today.

Pharaoh was angry with his servants, and he put me in custody in the house of the chief of the butchers, me and the chief of the bakers.

We dreamed a dream in one night, I and he; each man dreamed according to the interpretation of his dream.

And there was with us a youth, a Hebrew, a slave of the chief of the butchers; we recounted to him, and he opened up our dreams for us, each man according to his dream he opened up.

And it happened that just as he opened up for us, so it was: he restored me to my office, and him he hanged.

Pharaoh sent and summoned Joseph, and they rushed him out of the pit; he shaved, changed his garments, and came to Pharaoh.

Pharaoh said to Joseph, I dreamed a dream, and there is no one to open it up; and I have heard it said of you that you hear a dream to open it up.

Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, Not I; God will answer Pharaoh with wholeness.

Pharaoh spoke to Joseph, in my dream, look, I was standing on the edge of the Channel.

And look, from the Channel came up seven heifers, fat of flesh and beautiful of form, and they grazed among the reeds.

And look, seven other heifers were coming up after them, poor and very bad of form, and thin of flesh; I have not seen the like of them in all the land of Egypt for badness.

And the thin and bad heifers ate the seven first, fat heifers.

And they went into their insides, but it was not known that they had gone into their insides, and their look was bad as at the beginning; and I woke.

And I saw in my dream, and look, seven ears of grain were coming up on one stalk, full and good.

And look, seven ears of grain, shriveled, crushed, blighted by the east wind, were sprouting up after them.

The crushed ears of grain swallowed down the seven good ears of grain; and I said to the diviners, but there was no one to tell me.

Joseph said to Pharaoh, the dream of Pharaoh is one; God has told Pharaoh what he is about to do.

The seven good heifers are seven years, and the seven good ears of grain are seven years; the dream is one.

And the seven thin and bad heifers that come up after them are seven years, and the seven empty ears of grain blighted by the east wind will be seven years of famine.

That is the word that I spoke to Pharaoh: God has shown Pharaoh what he is about to do.

Look, seven years are coming, great plenty in all the land of Egypt.

And seven years of famine will arise after them, and all the plenty will be forgotten in the land of Egypt, and the famine will consume the land.

And the plenty will not be known in the land, in the face of the famine that follows, for it will be exceedingly heavy.

As for the dream being repeated to Pharaoh twice, it is because the word is established by God, and God is hurrying to do it.

And now, let Pharaoh see a man who is discerning and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt.

Let Pharaoh act and appoint overseers over the land, and tax a fifth of the land of Egypt in the seven years of plenty.

And let them gather all the food of those good years that are coming, and heap up grain under the hand of Pharaoh, food in the cities, and keep it.

And the food will become a reserve for the land, for the seven years of famine that will be in the land of Egypt, so that the land will not be cut off by the famine.

And the word seemed good in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of all his slaves.

And Pharaoh said to his slaves, Can we find a man like this one, in whom is the breath of God?

And Pharaoh said to Joseph, After God has made all this known to you, there is no one as discerning and wise as you.

You will be over my house, and all my people will kiss the word of your mouth; only in the throne will I become greater than you.

And Pharaoh said to Joseph, See, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.

And Pharaoh removed his signet ring from his hand and put it on the hand of Joseph, and clothed him in garments of fine linen, and put the necklace of gold around his neck.

And he made him ride in the second chariot that was his, and they called out before him, Kneel! So he set him over all the land of Egypt.

And Pharaoh said to Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without you no one will raise his hand or his foot in all the land of Egypt.

And Pharaoh called the name of Joseph Zaphenath-paneah, and gave him Asenath, the daughter of Poti-phera, priest of On, as a wife; and Joseph went out over the land of Egypt.

And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before the face of Pharaoh king of Egypt; and Joseph went out from the face of Pharaoh and passed through all the land of Egypt.

And the land yielded in fistfuls throughout the seven years of plenty.

And he gathered all the food of the seven years that were in the land of Egypt, and put food in the cities; the food of the fields of the city that was around it, he put in the middle of it.

And Joseph heaped up grain like the sand of the sea, multiplied exceedingly, until he ceased to count, for there was no number.

And before the year of the famine came, two sons were born to Joseph, whom Asenath, the daughter of Poti-phera, priest of On, bore to him.

And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: For God has made me forget all my toil and all the house of my father.

And the name of the second he called Ephraim: For God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.

And the seven years of plenty that were in the land of Egypt came to an end.

The seven years of famine began to come, as Joseph had said, and there was famine in all the lands, but in all the land of Egypt there was food.

And all the land of Egypt was hungry, and the people cried out to Pharaoh for food, and Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, Go to Joseph; whatever he says to you, do.

And the famine was over all the face of the land, and Joseph opened wide all that was in them and sold grain to Egypt, and the famine grew severe in the land of Egypt.

And all the land came to Egypt, to Joseph, to buy grain, for the famine was severe in all the land.
