Genesis39

And Joseph had been brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an official of Pharaoh, the chief of the butchers, an Egyptian man, acquired him from the hand of the Ishmaelites who had brought him down there.

And Yahweh was with Joseph, and he was a man who prospered; and he was in the house of his lord the Egyptian.

And his lord saw that Yahweh was with him, and all that he was doing, Yahweh was making prosper in his hand.

And Joseph found favor in his eyes, and he served him; and he appointed him over his house, and all that belonged to him he gave into his hand.

And it happened from the time that he appointed him over his house and over all that belonged to him, that Yahweh blessed the house of the Egyptian for the sake of Joseph; and the blessing of Yahweh was on all that belonged to him, in the house and in the field.

And he left all that belonged to him in the hand of Joseph, and he did not know anything that was with him, except the food that he ate. And Joseph was beautiful in figure and beautiful in look.

And it happened after these words that the wife of his lord lifted up her eyes to Joseph, and she said, “Lie down with me.”

And he refused, and said to the wife of his lord, “Look, my lord does not know what is in the house with me, and all that belongs to him he has given into my hand.”

No one in this house is greater than I, and he has not withheld anything from me except you, in that you are his wife; and how could I do this great evil, and sin against God?

And it happened, as she spoke to Joseph day after day, that he did not listen to her, to lie beside her, to be with her.

And it happened one day like this that he came into the house to do his work, and no one of the men of the house was there in the house.

And she seized him by his garment, saying, “Lie down with me.” But he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and went outside.

And it happened, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand and had fled outside,

She called to the men of her house, and said to them: See, he has brought us a man, an Eberite, to make sport of us. He came to me to lie down with me, and I called out in a great voice.

And it happened, when he heard that I raised my voice and called out, he left his garment beside me and fled, and went outside.

And she let his garment rest beside her until his lord came to his house.

She spoke to him in words like these, saying: The slave, the Eberite, whom you brought to us, came to me to make sport of me.

And it happened, as I raised my voice and called out, that he left his garment beside me and fled outside.

And it happened, when his lord heard the words of his wife, which she spoke to him, saying: Words like these your slave did to me; and his anger burned.

And the lord of Joseph took him and put him into the house of the dungeon, the place where the king's prisoners were bound; and he was there, in the house of the dungeon.

And Yahweh was with Joseph, and he extended loyal love to him, and gave him favor in the eyes of the official of the house of the dungeon.

And the official of the house of the dungeon put all the prisoners who were in the house of the dungeon into the hand of Joseph; and all that they were doing there, he was the one doing.

The official of the house of the dungeon was not seeing any speck in his hand, because Yahweh was with him; and whatever he was doing, Yahweh was making succeed.
