Genesis23

And the life of Sarah was a hundred years and twenty years and seven years; these were the years of the life of Sarah.

And Sarah died in Kiriath-arba, which is Hebron, in the land of Canaan; and Abraham came to mourn for Sarah, and to weep for her.

And Abraham rose up from over the face of his dead, and spoke to the children of Heth, saying,

A sojourner and a resident am I with you; give to me the possession of a sepulchre with you, and let me inter my dead from before my face.

And the children of Heth answered Abraham, saying to him,

Hear us, my lord; a prince of God are you in our middle; in the choicest of our sepulchres inter your dead; no man of us will restrain from you his sepulchre, from intering your dead.

Abraham rose and bowed down to the people of the land, to the children of Heth.

And he spoke with them, saying, If it is in your living being to inter my dead from before my face, hear me, and press for me with Ephron the son of Zohar,

that he may give me the cavern of Makpelah, which belongs to him, which is at the end of his field; for the full silver let him give it to me in your middle, for the possession of a sepulchre.

And Ephron was dwelling in the middle of the children of Heth; and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the ears of the children of Heth, to all those who were entering the gate of his city, saying,

No, my lord, hear me; the field I give to you, and the cavern that is in it, to you I give it; before the eyes of the children of my people I give it to you; inter your dead.

Abraham bowed down to the face of the people of the land.

And he spoke to Ephron in the ears of the people of the land, saying, Only, if you, oh, hear me; I give the silver of the field, take it from me, and let me inter my dead there.

And Ephron answered Abraham, saying to him,

My lord, hear me; a land of four hundred shekels of silver, between me and between you; what is it? And inter your dead.

And Abraham heard Ephron; and Abraham weighed out to Ephron the silver that he had spoken in the ears of the children of Heth, four hundred shekels of silver, passing over to the trader.

And the field of Ephron that was in Makpelah, that was before the face of Mamre, the field and the cavern that was in it, and every tree that was in the field, that was within all its boundary round about stood fast

to Abraham as a purchase, before the eyes of the children of Heth, among all those who were entering the gate of his city.

And after that Abraham interred Sarah his wife into the cavern of the field of Makpelah over the face of Mamre, that is Hebron, in the land of Canaan.

And the field and the cavern that was in it stood fast to Abraham as the possession of a sepulchre, from the children of Heth.
