And Abraham set out from there to the land of the South, and dwelt between Kadesh and Shur, and he sojourned in Gerar.
And Abraham said about Sarah his wife, “She is my sister.” And Abimelech, king of Gerar, sent and took Sarah.
And God came to Abimelech in a dream of the night and said to him, “Look, you are a dead man because of the woman you have taken, for she is married to a husband.”
Now Abimelech had not drawn near to her, and he said, “My lord, will you kill a nation, even a righteous one?”
Did he not say to me, ‘She is my sister’? And she herself also said, ‘He is my brother.’ In the integrity of my heart and the cleanness of my palms I have done this.
And God said to him in the dream, “I too know that you did this in the integrity of your heart; and I also held you back from sinning against me. Therefore I did not let you touch her.”
And now, return the wife of the man, for he is a prophet, and he will pray on your behalf, and you will live. But if you are not returning her, know that you will surely die, you and all who belong to you.
And Abimelech rose early in the morning, and summoned all his servants, and spoke all these words in their ears; and the men were very afraid.
And Abimelech summoned Abraham, and said to him, “What have you done to us? And how have I sinned against you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? Deeds that should not be done you have done with me.”
And Abimelech said to Abraham, “What did you see, that you have done this word?”
And Abraham said, “Because I said, Surely there is no fear of God in this place, and they will kill me over the word of my wife.”
And also, truly, she is my sister, the daughter of my father, only not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife.
And when God made me wander from the house of my father, I said to her, “This is your loyal love that you will do with me: to every place we come to, say of me, He is my brother.”
And Abimelech took flock and cattle, male slaves and female slaves, and gave them to Abraham; and he gave back to him Sarah his wife.
And Abimelech said, “Look, my land is before you; dwell where it is good in your eyes.”
And to Sarah he said, “Look, I have given a thousand of silver to your brother; look, it is for you a covering of the eyes, for all who are with you, and with everyone you are set right.”
And Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelech and his wife and his maidservants, and they bore children.
For Yahweh had completely closed in around every womb of the house of Abimelech, over the word of Sarah, the wife of Abraham.
