Genesis19

The two messengers came to Sodom in the evening, as Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. Lot saw them and rose to meet them, and bowed down, his face to the land.

And he said, Look now, my lords, turn aside, please, to the house of your servant and stay the night, and wash your feet; then you will rise early and go on your way. And they said, No, for we will stay the night in the open square.

He pressed them exceedingly, and they turned aside to him, and came into his house. And he prepared for them a feast, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.

They had not yet lain down when the men of the city, the men of Sodom, surrounded the house, from boy to old man, all the people from every end.

And they called to Lot, and said to him, Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us, so that we may know them.

And Lot went out to them at the doorway, and shut the door behind him.

And he said, Please, my brothers, do not do evil.

Look now, I have two daughters who have not known a man. Please let me bring out them to you, and do to them as is good in your eyes. Only to these men do not do a word, for this is why they have come under the shadow of my roof.

And they said, Move out of the way! And they said, This one came in to sojourn, and he keeps judging! Now we will do harm to you more than to them. And they pressed hard on the man, on Lot, and drew near to break down the door.

And the men stretched out their hand, and brought Lot in to them, into the house, and they shut the door.

And they struck the men who were at the entrance of the house with sudden blindness, from small to great, and they wore themselves out trying to find the entrance.

And the men said to Lot, Who else do you have here? A son-in-law, your sons, your daughters, and everyone you have in the city—bring them out of the place.

For we are about to ruin this place, because their outcry has become great before the face of Yahweh, and Yahweh has sent us to ruin it.

And Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who were about to take his daughters, and said, “Get up, go out from this place, for Yahweh is about to ruin the city.” But he seemed like one who jests in the eyes of his sons-in-law.

As the dawn came up, the messengers urged Lot, saying, “Get up, take your wife and your two daughters who are present, lest you be swept away in the guilt of the city.”

And he lingered, and the men took hold of his hand, and of the hand of his wife, and of the hand of his two daughters, in the compassion of Yahweh upon him; and they brought him out and set him down outside the city.

And when they had brought them outside, he said, “Slip away for your being! Do not look behind you, and do not stand anywhere in the whole district; slip away to the hill country, lest you be swept away.”

And Lot said to them, “Not so, please, my lord.”

Look, please, your servant has found favor in your eyes, and you have made great your loyal love, which you have done with me, to keep my being alive; but I am not able to slip away to the hill country, lest the disaster cling to me and I die.

Look, please, this city is near enough to flee there, and it is a small thing. Let me slip away there, please—is it not a small thing?—so that my being may live.

He said to him, “Look, I grant you this as well, in this word: I will not overturn the city of which you spoke.”

Hurry, slip away there, for I cannot do a word until you come there. Therefore he called the name of the city Zoar.

The sun went out over the land, and Lot came to Zoar.

And Yahweh rained sulfur and fire on Sodom and on Gomorrah, from Yahweh, out of the skies.

And he overturned these cities, and all the district, and all who dwelled in the cities, and the growth of the ground.

And his wife looked from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.

And Abraham rose early in the morning to the place where he had stood there before the face of Yahweh.

And he looked down over the face of Sodom and Gomorrah, and over all the face of the land of the district; and he saw, and look, the smoke of the land went up like the smoke of a kiln.

And it happened, when God ruined the cities of the district, that God remembered Abraham and sent Lot out from the midst of the overturning, when he overturned the cities in which Lot had dwelt.

And Lot went up from Zoar and dwelt in the hill country, and his two daughters with him, for he was afraid to dwell in Zoar; and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters.

And the firstborn said to the younger, "Our father is old, and there is no man in the land to come in to us, as is the way of all the land."

Come, let us give our father wine to drink, and let us lie down with him, so that we may keep seed alive from our father.

And they gave their father wine to drink that night, and the firstborn came and lay down with her father; and he did not know when she lay down and when she rose.

And it happened on the next day that the firstborn said to the younger, “Look, I lay last night with my father; let us give him wine to drink this night also, and you go in and lie with him, so that we may keep seed alive from our father.”

And they gave their father wine to drink that night also, and the younger one rose and lay down with him; and he did not know when she lay down and when she rose.

And the two daughters of Lot conceived by their father.

And the firstborn bore a son, and she called his name Moab; he is the father of Moab to this day.

And the younger one, she also bore a son, and she called his name Ben-ammi; he is the father of the sons of Ammon to this day.
