When Abram was ninety-nine years old, Yahweh appeared to Abram and said to him, I am God Almighty; walk about before my face and be whole.
And I will set my covenant between me and you, and I will multiply you exceedingly.
And Abram fell on his face, and God spoke with him, saying:
As for me, look, my covenant is with you, and you will become the father of a horde of nations.
And your name will not again be called Abram, but your name will be Abraham, for I have made you the father of a horde of nations.
And I will make you exceedingly fruitful, and I will make you into nations, and kings will go out from you.
And I will set up my covenant between me and you and your seed after you, for their generations, as a covenant forever, to be God to you and to your seed after you.
And I will give to you and to your seed after you the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, as a possession forever; and I will be God to them.
And God said to Abraham, As for you, you will keep my covenant, you and your seed after you, for their generations.
This is my covenant, which you will keep between me and you and your seed after you: every male among you is to be circumcised.
You will have the flesh of your foreskin circumcised, and it will become a sign of the covenant between me and you.
A son of eight days will be circumcised among you, every male, throughout your generations: the one born in the house, and the one bought with silver from any foreigner's son who is not of your seed.
The one born in your house and the one bought with your silver must surely be circumcised; and my covenant will be in your flesh as a covenant forever.
And an uncircumcised male who is not circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin: that being will be cut off from its people; he has broken my covenant.
And God said to Abraham, Your wife Sarai: you will not call her name Sarai, for Sarah is her name.
And I will bless her, and I will also give you a son from her; yes, I will bless her, and she will become nations; kings of peoples will come from her.
And Abraham fell on his face and laughed outright, and said in his heart, Will a son be born to one a hundred years old? Or will Sarah, a woman of ninety years, bear?
And Abraham said to God, Oh, that Ishmael might live before your face!
And God said, Truly, Sarah your wife is about to bear you a son, and you will call his name Isaac; and I will set up my covenant with him as a covenant forever for his seed after him.
And as for Ishmael, I have heard you: look, I have blessed him, and will make him fruitful, and will multiply him exceedingly; he will father twelve princes, and I will make him a great nation.
And my covenant I will set up with Isaac, whom Sarah will bear to you at this appointed time in the following year.
And he finished speaking with him, and God went up from Abraham.
And Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all those born in his house, and all those bought with his silver, every male among the men of Abraham's house, and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin on that very day, just as God had spoken with him.
And Abraham was ninety-nine years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.
And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.
On that very day Abraham was circumcised, and Ishmael his son.
And all the men of his house, those born in the house and those bought with silver from a foreigner's son, were circumcised with him.
