Yahweh said to Abram, "Go from your land, from your kindred, and from your father's household to the land that I will show you."
And I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you, and I will make your name great, and be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you, and the one who treats you with contempt I will curse; and in you all the clans of the earth will be blessed.
And Abram went, as Yahweh had spoken to him, and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he went out from Haran.
And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their property that they had gathered, and the beings they had acquired in Haran; and they went out to go to the land of Canaan, and they came to the land of Canaan.
And Abram passed through the land as far as the place of Shechem, to the terebinth of Moreh. The Canaanite was then in the land.
And Yahweh appeared to Abram and said, “To your seed I will give this land.” And he built an altar there to Yahweh, who had appeared to him.
And he moved on from there to the hills east of Beth-el and pitched his tent, with Beth-el on the sea side and Ai to the east. And he built an altar there to Yahweh and called on the name of Yahweh.
And Abram set out, going and journeying on toward the South.
There was a famine in the land, and Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine was heavy in the land.
And it happened, as he drew near to enter Egypt, that he said to Sarai his wife, “Look now, I know that you are a woman beautiful to look at.”
And it will happen, when the Egyptians see you, that they will say, ‘This is his wife,’ and they will kill me, but you they will let live.
Say, please, you are my sister, so that it may go well with me on your account, and my being will live for your sake.
And it happened, as Abram came into Egypt, the Egyptians saw the woman, that she was exceedingly beautiful.
And the officials of Pharaoh saw her and praised her to Pharaoh, and the woman was taken into the house of Pharaoh.
And it went well with Abram on her account, and he had flocks and cattle and donkeys and slaves and female slaves and female donkeys and camels.
And Yahweh touched Pharaoh with great plagues, and his house, on account of the word of Sarai, the wife of Abram.
And Pharaoh called to Abram and said, What is this you have done to me? Why did you not tell me that she is your wife?
Why did you say, She is my sister, so that I took her for myself as a wife? And now, here is your wife; take her and go.
And Pharaoh commanded men concerning him, and they sent him off, and his wife, and all that belonged to him.
