¹And as Ezra prayed and praised it, weeping and falling to the face of the house of God, there gathered together to him from Israel a company, exceedingly great, of men and women and children; the people wept a weeping multiplied.

²Shecaniah, of the son of Jehiel, from the children of Elam, answered and said to Ezra, We have committed against our God and have dwelt with foreigner women from the people of the land; and now there is hope to Israel.

³And now let us cut a covenant to our God to bring out all the women and that which they bear young from them, in the counsel of the Lord and of those afraid in the commandments of our God; and as the instruction it will be made.

⁴Rise, for over you is the word, and we are with you; be strong and make it.

⁵And Ezra rose and made the officials of the priests, the Levites, and all Israel swear, to make it as the word; and they swore.

⁶And Ezra rose from the face of the house of God and went to the hall of Jehohanan, of the son of Eliashib; and he went there, food he did not eat and waters he did not drink, for he mourned over the breach of the exile.

⁷A sound was caused to pass over in Judah and Jerusalem to all the children of the exile, to gather together to Jerusalem.

⁸And all who will not come to the three days, as the counsel of the officials and the elders, will have all his property destroyed, and he himself will be separated from the company of the exile.

⁹And all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered together to Jerusalem to the three days; it was the ninth month, in the twenty of the month, and all the people dwelt in the broad place of the house of God, trembling over the word and from the rains.

¹⁰And Ezra the priest rose and said to them, You have committed and have dwelt with foreigner women, to be repeated over the guilt of Israel.

¹¹And now give thanksgiving to Yahweh, the God of your fathers, and do his will, and separate yourselves from the peoples of the land and from the foreign women.

¹²And all the company answered and said with a great sound, So, as your word over us, it is for us to make.

¹³But the people are great, and it is the time of rains, and there is no strength to stand in the outside; and the work is not to one day and not to two, for we have multiplied to rebel in the word.

¹⁴Let our officials stand for all the company, and all who in our city have dwelt with foreigner women will come to fixed times, and with them the elders of city by city and her judges, in order to return the anger of the anger of our God from us, in to the word.

¹⁵Only Jonathan, of the son of Asahel, and Jahzeiah, of the son of Tikvah, stood over this; and Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite helped them.

¹⁶So the children of the exile made it; Ezra the priest and men, heads of the fathers to the house of their fathers, and all of them in names, were separated; and they dwelt in the day one to the tenth month to inquire the word.

¹⁷And they completed with all the men who had dwelt with foreigner women, in day one to the first month.

¹⁸And there were found from the children of the priests who the women dwelt foreigner: from the children of Jeshua, of the son of Jozadak, and his brothers, Maaseiah and Eliezer and Jarib and Gedaliah.

¹⁹And they set their hand to bring out their wives, and being guilty, a ram of the flock over their guilt.

²⁰And from the children of Immer, Hanani and Zebadiah.

²¹And from the children of Harim, Maaseiah and Elijah and Shemaiah and Jehiel and Uzziah.

²²And from the children of Pashhur, Elioenai, Maaseiah, Ishmael, Nethanel, Jozabad, and Eleasah.

²³And from the Levites, Jozabad and Shimei and Kelaiah (he is Kelita), Pethahiah, Judah, and Eliezer.

²⁴And from those who sing, Eliashib; and from the gatekeepers, Shallum and Telem and Uri.

²⁵And from Israel: from the children of Parosh, Ramiah and Izziah and Malkijah and Mijamin and Eleazar and Malkijah and Benaiah.

²⁶And from the children of Elam, Mattaniah, Zechariah and Jehiel and Abdi and Jeremoth and Elijah.

²⁷And from the children of Zattu, Elioenai, Eliashib, Mattaniah and Jeremoth and Zabad and Aziza.

²⁸And from the children of Bebai, Jehohanan, Hananiah, Zabbai, Athlai.

²⁹And from the children of Bani, Meshullam, Malluch and Adaiah, Jashub and Sheal and Ramoth.

³⁰And from the children of Pahath-moab, Adna and Kelal, Benaiah, Maaseiah, Mattaniah, Bezalel and Binnui and Manasseh.

³¹And the children of Harim, Eliezer, Isshiah, Malkijah, Shemaiah, Simeon.

³²Benjamin, Malluch, Shemariah.

³³From the children of Hashum, Mattenai, Mattattah, Zabad, Eliphelet, Jeremai, Manasseh, Shimei.

³⁴From the children of Bani, Maadai, Amram and Uel.

³⁵Benaiah, Bedeiah, Keluhi.

³⁶Vaniah, Meremoth, Eliashib.

³⁷Mattaniah, Mattenai and Jaasai.

³⁸And Bani and Binnui, Shimei.

³⁹And Shelemiah and Nathan and Adaiah.

⁴⁰Machnadebai, Shashai, Sharai.

⁴¹Azarel and Shelemiah, Shemariah.

⁴²Shallum, Amariah, Joseph.

⁴³From the children of Nebo, Jeiel, Mattithiah, Zabad, Zebina, Jaddai and Joel, Benaiah.

⁴⁴All these had lifted up foreigner women, and there were from them women who put children.
