Ezekiel8

It was in the sixth year, in the sixth month, on the fifth day of the month, as I was sitting in my house with the elders of Judah sitting before me, that there the hand of the Adonai Yahweh fell on me.

And I saw, and there was a likeness, like the look of fire; from the look of his loins downward, fire; and from his loins upward, like the look of radiance, like the gleam of shining amber.

And he stretched out the pattern of a hand, and took me by the lock of my head; and a spirit lifted me up between the land and between the skies, and brought me to Jerusalem in the visions of God, to the doorway of the inner gate that faces north, where the seat of the image of jealousy, which provokes jealousy, stood there.

And look, the weightiness of the God of Israel was there, like the look that I had seen in the valley.

And he said to me, Son of man, lift up your eyes, please, in the direction of the north. And I lifted up my eyes in the direction of the north, and look, to the north of the gate of the altar, this image of jealousy was in the entrance.

And he said to me, Son of man, do you see what they are doing, the great abominations that the house of Israel is doing here, so that I am far from my sanctuary. And you will turn back again and see great abominations.

And he brought me to the entrance of the court, and I saw, and look, there was one hole in the wall.

And he said to me, Son of man, dig, please, in the wall. And I dug in the wall, and look, there was one doorway.

And he said to me, Go in and see the evil abominations that they are doing here.

And I went in and I saw, and look, every pattern of creeping thing and animal, a detestable thing, and all the idols of the house of Israel, carved on the wall all around, all around.

And seventy men from the elders of the house of Israel, and Jaazaniah son of Shaphan standing in the midst of them, were standing before them, each man with his censer in his hand, and the thick smoke of the cloud of incense was going up.

And he said to me, Have you seen, son of man, what the elders of the house of Israel are doing in the darkness, each man in the chambers of his carved figure? For they are saying, Yahweh does not see us; Yahweh has forsaken the land.

And he said to me, You will turn back again and see great abominations that they are doing.

And he brought me to the entrance of the gate of the house of Yahweh that is toward the north, and look, the women were sitting there, bewailing Tammuz.

And he said to me, Have you seen, son of man? You will turn back again and see abominations greater than these.

And he brought me to the inner court of the house of Yahweh, and behold, at the door of the temple of Yahweh, between the porch and the altar, were about twenty-five men, their backs toward the temple of Yahweh and their faces eastward; and they were bowing down eastward to the sun.

And he said to me, Have you seen, son of man? Is it too slight a thing for the house of Judah to do the abominations they have done here, that they fill the land with violence and turn back to provoke me to anger? And look, they are sending the branch to their nose.

And I also will act in burning anger; my eye will not look with pity, and I will not spare. They will call out in my ears with a great sound, and I will not hear them.
