And the word of Yahweh came to me, saying:
Son of man, prophesy against the shepherds of Israel; prophesy, and say to them, to the shepherds: Thus says Adonai Yahweh: Woe to the shepherds of Israel who have been shepherding themselves! Should the shepherds not shepherd the flock?
You eat the fat, you clothe yourselves with the wool, you slaughter the fattened animal; but the flock you do not shepherd.
The weak you have not strengthened, the sick you have not healed, the broken you have not bound up, the driven-away you have not brought back, the lost you have not sought; but with force you have ruled them, and with harshness.
So they were scattered for lack of a shepherd, and they became food for every beast of the field; yes, they were scattered.
My flock has strayed in all the mountains, and on every high hill; over the whole face of the land my flock was scattered, and no one inquires, and no one seeks.
Therefore, shepherds, hear the word of Yahweh:
As I live—the utterance of Adonai Yahweh—surely because my flock became plunder, and my flock became food for every beast of the field for lack of a shepherd, and my shepherds did not inquire after my flock, but the shepherds shepherded themselves and did not shepherd my flock,
Therefore, shepherds, hear the word of Yahweh:
Thus says Adonai Yahweh: Look, I am against the shepherds, and I will require my flock from their hand, and I will make them cease from shepherding the flock; and the shepherds will not shepherd themselves any longer, and I will deliver my flock from their mouths, and they will not be food for them.
For thus says Adonai Yahweh: Look, I myself will seek out my flock, and will look after them.
As a shepherd looks after his flock on the day he is among his scattered sheep, so I will look after my flock, and I will deliver them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of cloud and gloom.
And I will bring them out from the peoples and I will gather them from the lands, and bring them to their own ground, and I will shepherd them on the mountains of Israel, by the channels and in all the dwelling places of the land.
In good pasture I will shepherd them, and on the mountain heights of Israel will be their meadow; there they will crouch in a good meadow, and they will graze on rich pasture upon the mountains of Israel.
I myself will shepherd my flock, and I myself will make them crouch, the utterance of Adonai Yahweh.
The lost I will seek, and the driven-away I will bring back, and the broken I will bind up, and the sick I will strengthen; but the fat and the strong I will destroy; I will shepherd them with justice.
And you, my flock—thus says Adonai Yahweh: Look, I am about to judge between one sheep and another, between the rams and the male goats.
Is it too little for you that you graze the good pasture, but the rest of your pastures you trample with your feet? And that you drink clear waters, but those who are left you foul with your feet?
And my flock graze on what your feet have trampled, and drink what your feet have fouled.
Therefore thus says Adonai Yahweh to them: Look, I myself will judge between a fat sheep, and between a lean sheep.
Because you push with side and shoulder, and with your horns you gore all the weak, until you have scattered them outside,
I will save my flock, and they will not be plunder any more; and I will judge between one sheep and another.
And I will raise up over them one shepherd, and he will shepherd them—my slave David; he will shepherd them, and he will be their shepherd.
And I, Yahweh, will be their God, and my slave David a prince in their midst. I, Yahweh, have spoken.
And I will cut for them a covenant of wholeness, and I will make the wild animals cease from the land, and they will dwell in the wilderness in security, and they will sleep in the forests.
And I will set them, and the surroundings of my hill, as a blessing, and I will bring down the rain in its time; rains of blessing they will be.
And the tree of the field will give its fruit, and the land will give its produce, and they will be on their ground in security; and they will know that I am Yahweh, when I break the bars of their yoke, and deliver them from the hand of those who work them.
And they will not be plunder for the nations any longer, and the beast of the land will not devour them; they will dwell in security, with none to terrify.
And I will raise up for them a planting of renown, and they will no longer be gathered away by famine in the land, and they will no longer bear the disgrace of the nations.
And they will know that I, Yahweh their God, am with them, and that they, the house of Israel, are my people — the utterance of the Adonai Yahweh.
And you are my flock, the flock of my pasture; you are human, and I am your God — the utterance of the Adonai Yahweh.
