¹It happened in the twelfth year, in the twelfth month, on the first day of the month, that the word of Yahweh came to me, saying:

²Son of man, lift up a lamentation over Pharaoh king of Egypt, and say to him: You were likened to a young lion of the nations, but you are like the sea monster in the seas; you burst forth in your rivers, muddied the waters with your feet, and fouled their rivers.

³Thus says the Adonai Yahweh: I will spread my net over you in a company of many peoples, and they will bring you up in my dragnet.

⁴I will leave you on the land; over the face of the field I will hurl you, and I will make every bird of the skies settle on you, and I will satisfy the living creatures of all the land with you.

⁵I will set your flesh on the mountains, and I will fill the valleys with your remains.

⁶I will water the land of your outflow with your blood, up to the mountains, and the channels will be filled with you.

⁷When I put you out, I will cover the skies and darken their stars; the sun I will cover with a cloud, and the moon will not make its light shine.

⁸All the lights of light in the skies I will darken over you, and I will set darkness over your land, the utterance of the Adonai Yahweh.

⁹I will vex the heart of many peoples when I bring your destruction among the nations, to lands that you have not known.

¹⁰I will appall many peoples over you, and their kings will shudder with horror over you, when I brandish my sword over their faces; and they will tremble every moment, each man for his own being, on the day of your ruin.

¹¹For thus says the Adonai Yahweh: The sword of the king of Babylon will come to you.

¹²By the swords of mighty men I will make your hordes fall, the ruthless of the nations, all of them; and they will devastate the majesty of Egypt, and all its hordes will be wiped out.

¹³I will destroy all its livestock from beside the great waters, and the foot of a human will not muddy them again, nor will the hooves of livestock muddy them.

¹⁴Then I will make their waters sink, and I will make their rivers flow like oil, the utterance of the Adonai Yahweh.

¹⁵When I make the land of Egypt a wasteland, and the land is desolated of its fullness, when I strike down all who dwell in it, then they will know that I am Yahweh.

¹⁶This is a lamentation, and they will chant it; the daughters of the nations will chant it; over Egypt and over all its hordes they will chant it, the utterance of the Adonai Yahweh.

¹⁷It happened in the twelfth year, on the fifteenth day of the month, that the word of Yahweh came to me, saying:

¹⁸Son of man, wail over the hordes of Egypt, and bring it down—it and the daughters of mighty nations—to the lower land, with those who go down to the pit.

¹⁹Whom are you lovelier than? Go down, and be laid with the uncircumcised.

²⁰In the midst of those slain by the sword they will fall; a sword is set: draw her away, and all her hordes!

²¹The rams of the mighty men will speak to him from the midst of Sheol, with his helpers: they have come down, they lie, the uncircumcised, slain by the sword.

²²There is Assyria and all her company; around him are his graves; all of them are slain, fallen by the sword.

²³whose graves were set in the flanks of the pit, and her company was around her grave; all of them slain, fallen by the sword, who had set terror in the land of the living.

²⁶There is Meshech, Tubal, and all her hordes; around him are her graves; all of them uncircumcised, pierced by the sword, for they set their terror in the land of the living.

²⁷And they will not lie with the mighty men who fell from among the uncircumcised, who went down to Sheol with the weapons of their war; and they set their swords under their heads, and their guilt was upon their bones, for the terror of the mighty men was in the land of the living.

²⁸And you, in the midst of the uncircumcised you will be broken, and you will lie with those slain by the sword.

²⁹There is Edom, her kings and all her princes, who were put, despite their might, with the slain of the sword; they lie down with the uncircumcised, and with those who go down to the pit.

³⁰There are the princes of the north, all of them, and all the Sidonians, who went down with the slain in their terror, ashamed of their might; and they lay uncircumcised with the slain of the sword, and bore their disgrace with those who go down to the pit.

³¹Pharaoh will see them, and he will be comforted over all his hordes, the slain of the sword, Pharaoh and all his army, the utterance of the Adonai Yahweh.

³²For I set my terror in the land of the living, and he will be laid down in the midst of the uncircumcised, with the slain of the sword, Pharaoh and all his hordes, the utterance of the Adonai Yahweh.
