And it happened in the eleventh year, in the third month, on the first day of the month, that the word of Yahweh came to me, saying:
Son of man, say to Pharaoh, king of Egypt, and to his crowd: Whom are you like in your greatness?
Look, Assyria was a cedar in Lebanon, beautiful of branch, a shade-giving forest, tall of height, and among the interwoven foliage was its treetop.
Waters made it great, the deep raised it high; her rivers went all around the place of her planting, and her channels she sent out to all the trees of the field.
Therefore its height was tall above all the trees of the field; its boughs multiplied and its branches grew long, from the many waters, as it sent them forth.
In its boughs all the birds of the skies nested, and under its branches all the animals of the field gave birth, and in its shade dwelt all the great nations.
It was beautiful in its greatness, in the length of its branches, for its root was beside many waters.
Cedars in the garden of God did not eclipse it; cypresses were not like its boughs, and plane trees were not like its branches; no tree in the garden of God was like it in its beauty.
I made it beautiful with the abundance of its branches, and all the trees of Eden that were in the garden of God envied it.
Therefore thus says the Adonai Yahweh: Because you were tall in height, and it set its treetop among the interwoven foliage, and its heart grew high in its height,
I gave it into the hand of the ram of the nations; he will surely deal with it, according to its wickedness; I drove it out.
Strangers, the ruthless of the nations cut it down and left it on the mountains; and in all the valleys its branches fell, and its boughs were broken in all the channels of the land; and all the peoples of the land went down from its shade and left it.
On its fallen ruin all the birds of the skies will dwell, and among its branches will be all the animals of the field.
so that none of the trees of water may be lifted up in their height, nor set their treetop among the interwoven foliage, nor may their rams stand in their height, all who drink water; for all of them are given to death, to the lowest land, among the sons of humankind, to those who go down to the pit.
Thus says the Adonai Yahweh: On the day it went down to Sheol I caused mourning; I covered the deep over it, and I held back its rivers, and the many waters were shut up; I made Lebanon go dark in mourning over it, and all the trees of the field over it fainted.
At the sound of his ruin I shook the nations, when I brought him down to Sheol with those who go down to the pit; and all the trees of Eden, the choicest and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, were comforted in the lower land.
They too went down with him to Sheol, to those slain by the sword; and his arm, who dwelled in his shade, in the midst of the nations.
To whom are you thus like in weightiness and greatness among the trees of Eden? Yet you will be brought down with the trees of Eden to the lower land; in the midst of the uncircumcised you will lie, with those slain by the sword. That is Pharaoh and all his hordes, the utterance of the Adonai Yahweh.
