And the word of Yahweh came to me in the ninth year, in the tenth month, on the tenth day of the month, saying:
Son of the man, write for yourself the name of the day, this very day: the king of Babylon has leaned against Jerusalem on this very day.
Use a proverb to the house of rebellion, a parable, and say to them: Thus says Adonai Yahweh: Set on the pot, set it on, and also pour water into it.
Gather its pieces into it, every good piece, thigh and shoulder; fill it with the choicest of the bones.
Take the choicest of the flock, and also pile the bones under it; make its boilings boil, and let its bones cook in the middle of it too.
Therefore thus says Adonai Yahweh: Woe to the city of bloods, a pot whose rust is in it, and its rust has not gone out of it! Piece by piece, bring it out; no lot has fallen on it.
For her blood was in the middle of her; on the glaring surface of the crag she set it; she did not pour it out on the land, to cover it over with dust.
To bring up anger, to avenge with vengeance, I put her blood on the glaring surface of the crag, so that it would not be covered.
Therefore thus says Adonai Yahweh: Woe to the city of bloods! I too will make the pyre great.
Make the wood plentiful, set the fire aflame, finish off the flesh, spice the seasoning well, and let the bones be scorched.
Then set it empty on its coals, so that it grows warm and its bronze becomes hot, and its uncleanness melts in the middle of it and its rust is consumed.
Toils have worn her out, and her great mass of rust has not gone out of her; into the fire with her rust.
In your uncleanness is wickedness; because I cleansed you, yet you were not clean from your uncleanness, you will not be clean again; until I let my anger rest on you.
I, Yahweh, have spoken; it is coming, and I will do it. I will not let go, I will not pity, and I will not be sorry; according to your ways, and according to your deeds they judge you—the utterance of Adonai Yahweh.
The word of Yahweh came to me, saying:
Son of man, Look, I am about to take the desire of your eyes from you by a blow; but you must not lament, you must not weep, and your tears must not come.
Groan in silence; for the dead you must make no mourning. Bind your turban on you, put your sandals on your feet, do not cover over your moustache, and do not eat the food of men.
And I spoke to the people in the morning; and my wife died in the evening; and I made in the morning as I commanded.
The people said to me: Will you not tell us what these are to us, that you are doing?
I said to them: The word of Yahweh came to me, saying:
Say to the house of Israel: Thus says Adonai Yahweh: Look, I am about to profane my sanctuary, the majesty of your strength, the desire of your eyes, and the thing pitied by your being; and your sons and your daughters whom you left will fall by the sword.
And you will do as I have done: you will not cover over your moustache, and you will not eat the food of men.
Your turbans will be on your heads and your sandals on your feet; you will not lament and you will not weep, but you will pine away in your guilt and groan, each to his brother.
Ezekiel will be a wonder to you; you will do according to all that he has done. When it comes, you will know that I am Adonai Yahweh.
And you, son of the man, will it not be in the day I take from them their stronghold, the joy of their splendor, the precious of their eyes, and the burden of their living being, their sons and their daughters —
On that day the escapee will come to you to make your ears hear.
On that day your mouth will be opened with the escapee, and you will speak, and will no longer be mute; you will be a wonder to them, and they will know that I am Yahweh.
