¹The word of Yahweh was to me, saying:

²And you, son of man, will you judge, will you judge the city of bloodshed? Then make known to her all her abominations.

³You shall say: Thus says the Adonai Yahweh: O city that sheds blood in her midst, so that her time may come, and makes idols over herself, to defile herself.

⁴By your blood that you shed you have become guilty, and by your idols that you made you have become unclean; you have brought near your days and have come to your years. Therefore I have made you a reproach to the nations and a derision to all the lands.

⁵Those near and those far from you will mock you, unclean in name, abounding in turmoil.

⁶Behold, the princes of Israel, each man by his arm, have been in you, for the sake of shedding blood.

⁷Father and mother they treated with contempt in you; the sojourner they dealt with by oppression in your midst; the fatherless and the widow they maltreated in you.

⁸My holy things you have despised, and my sabbaths you have profaned.

⁹Men of slander have been in you, for the sake of shedding blood; and at the mountains they have eaten in you; depravity they have done in your midst.

¹⁰The nakedness of a father they have uncovered in you; the one unclean in menstrual impurity they have humbled in you.

¹¹One man has done an abomination with his neighbor's wife; another has defiled his daughter-in-law in depravity; and another has humbled his sister, his father's daughter, in you.

¹²A bribe they have taken in you, for the sake of shedding blood; interest and increase you have taken, and you have made violent gain from your neighbors by oppression; and me you have forgotten — the utterance of Adonai Yahweh.

¹³And behold, I have struck my palm at your unjust gain that you have made, and over your blood that has been in your midst.

¹⁴Will your heart stand firm, or will your hands be strong, in the days when I deal with you? I, Yahweh, have spoken, and I will act.

¹⁵And I will scatter you among the nations and I will disperse you among the lands, and I will make an end of your uncleanness from you.

¹⁶You will be profaned by yourself in the eyes of the nations, and you will know that I am Yahweh.

¹⁷The word of Yahweh was to me, saying:

¹⁸Son of man, the house of Israel has become dross to me; all of them are bronze, tin, iron, and lead in the middle of the furnace; they have become dross of silver.

¹⁹Therefore thus says Adonai Yahweh: Because all of you have become dross, therefore behold, I am about to gather you into the middle of Jerusalem.

²⁰As one gathers silver and bronze and iron and lead and tin into the middle of a furnace, to blow fire on it to melt it, so I will gather you in my anger and in my rage, and I will set you down and melt you.

²¹And I will gather you in and I will blow on you in the fire of my wrath, and you will be poured out in the midst of it.

²²As silver is melted in the midst of a furnace, so you will be melted in the midst of it, and you will know that I, Yahweh, have poured out my anger on you.

²³The word of Yahweh came to me, saying:

²⁴Son of the man, say to it: you are a land that is not cleansed, and it is not rained on in the day of indignation.

²⁵The conspiracy of her prophets in her midst is like a lion roaring and tearing prey. They devour beings, they take riches and precious things, and her widows they have multiplied in her midst.

²⁶Her priests have wronged my instruction and have profaned my holy things; between the holy and the common they have not separated, and they have not made known the difference between the unclean and the clean; and from my sabbaths they have hidden their eyes, and I have been profaned in their midst.

²⁷Her officials in her midst are like wolves tearing prey, shedding blood, destroying living beings, in order to gain profit by violence.

²⁸And her prophets have plastered for them with whitewash, seeing emptiness and divining lies for them, saying: 'Thus says the Adonai Yahweh,' though Yahweh has not spoken.

²⁹The people of the land have oppressed with oppression and have committed robbery; they have maltreated the poor and the needy, and the sojourner they have oppressed without justice.

³⁰And I searched among them for a man who would build a wall and stand in the breach before me on behalf of the land, so that I would not ruin it, but I did not find any.

³¹So I poured out my indignation on them; in the fire of my wrath I finished them; I have put their way on their own head, the utterance of Adonai Yahweh.
