And you, lift up a lamentation over the princes of Israel.
You will say: What was your mother? A lioness! Between lions she crouched; in the midst of young lions she multiplied her cubs.
She brought up one of her cubs; a young lion he became, and he learned to tear prey; he ate a man.
And nations heard concerning him; in their pit he was caught, and they brought him with hooks to the land of Egypt.
And she saw that she had waited, that her hope had perished; and she took one of her cubs and made him a young lion.
And he walked about in the midst of lions; a young lion he became, and he learned to tear prey; he ate a man.
And he knew their widows, and laid waste their cities; and the land and its fullness were desolate from the sound of his roaring.
And nations set against him from all around, from the provinces; they spread out their net over him, and in their pit he was caught.
And they put him in a cage with hooks, and brought him to the king of Babylon; they brought him in nets, so that his voice would not be heard again to the mountains of Israel.
Your mother, like a vine in your blood, planted beside waters; fruitful and full of branches she was, from the many waters.
And it had staffs of strength, for the scepters of rulers; and its height rose high above, among the interwoven foliage; and it was seen in its height, in the abundance of its boughs.
But it was plucked up in rage, thrown down to the land; and the east wind dried up its fruit; they were torn off and became dry, the staff of its strength; fire ate it.
And now it is planted in the wilderness, in a land of dryness and thirst.
And fire went out from the staff of its limbs, and ate its fruit; and there is no staff of strength in it, no scepter to rule. It is a lamentation, and it has become a lamentation.
