Ezekiel16

And the word of Yahweh came to me, saying:

Son of man, make known to Jerusalem her abominations,

and say: Thus says the Adonai Yahweh to Jerusalem: Your origins and your birthplaces are from the land of the Canaanite; your father was the Amorite and your mother a Hittite.

As for your birth, on the day you were born your navel cord was not cut, and you were not washed in the waters for cleansing; you were not salted at all, and you were not swaddled at all.

No eye had pity on you, to do for you one of these things, to spare you; you were thrown out onto the face of the field, in loathing of your being, on the day you were born.

And I passed by you and I saw you kicking about in your blood, and I said to you in your blood: Live! And I said to you in your blood: Live!

I made you ten thousand like the growth of the field; and you multiplied, and you became great, and you came to the finest ornament; your breasts stood firm and your hair had sprouted, yet you were naked and bare.

I passed by you and I saw you, and look, your time was a time of love; I spread my wing over you and I covered your nakedness, and I swore to you and I came into a covenant with you—the utterance of the Adonai Yahweh—and you became mine.

And I washed you in the waters, and I rinsed your blood off you, and I anointed you with oil.

And I clothed you with embroidered cloth, and I sandaled you with antelope hide, and I bound you in fine linen, and I covered you with silk.

And I adorned you with ornament, and I put bracelets on your hands and a chain on your neck.

And I put a ring on your nose, and earrings on your ears, and a crown of beauty on your head.

And you adorned yourself with gold and silver, and your clothing was fine linen and silk and embroidered cloth; you ate fine flour and honey and oil; and you became beautiful exceedingly, and you prospered to royalty.

A name went out for you among the nations because of your beauty, for it was perfect through my splendor that I had put upon you — the utterance of the Adonai Yahweh.

But you trusted in your beauty and prostituted yourself on the strength of your name, and you poured out your prostitutions on everyone who passed by; it would be his.

You took some of your garments and made for yourself high places patched in many colors, and you prostituted yourself on them; it has not come, and it will not be.

You took the articles of your splendor, from my gold and from my silver that I had given you, and made for yourself images of a male, and you prostituted yourself with them.

You took your embroidered garments and covered them, and you set my oil and my incense before them.

And my food that I had given you — fine flour and oil and honey that I fed you — you set before them as a soothing scent; and so it was — the utterance of the Adonai Yahweh.

You took your sons and your daughters, whom you bore to me, and sacrificed them to them to be devoured. Was your prostitution too small a thing,

that you slaughtered my sons and gave them up, making them pass over to them?

And in all your abominations and your prostitutions you did not remember the days of your youth, when you were naked and bare, kicking about in your blood.

And it happened, after all your wickedness — woe, woe to you! — the utterance of the Adonai Yahweh —

that you built for yourself a mound, and made for yourself a high place in every open place.

At the head of every road you built your high place, and made your beauty abominable; you opened wide your feet to every one who passed by, and multiplied your prostitutions.

You prostituted yourself with the sons of Egypt, your neighbors, large of flesh, and multiplied your prostitution to provoke me to anger.

And look, I stretched out my hand over you and trimmed back your allotment, and I gave you up to the being of those who hate you, the daughters of the Philistines, who were put to shame by your way of depravity.

You prostituted yourself with the sons of Assyria, because of your lack of satiety; you prostituted yourself with them, and even so you were not satisfied.

You multiplied your prostitution to the land of Canaan, toward Chaldea, and even with this you were not satisfied.

How weak your heart is — the utterance of the Adonai Yahweh — that you do all these things, the deeds of a domineering woman, a prostitute.

in your building your mound at the head of every road, and your high place you made in every open place — yet you were not like a prostitute, scorning hire.

The adulterous wife takes strangers in place of her husband.

To all prostitutes they give a gift, but you, you gave your gifts to all your lovers, and you bribed them to come to you from round about, for your prostitutions.

And there was in you the opposite of the women in your prostitutions: no one prostituted after you, and in your giving hire when hire was not given to you, you became the opposite.

Therefore, prostitute, hear the word of Yahweh.

This is what the Adonai Yahweh has said: Because your bronze was poured out and your nakedness was uncovered in your prostitutions with your lovers and with all the idols of your abominations, and according to the blood of your sons whom you gave to them,

therefore, look, I am about to gather all your lovers, to whom you were pleasing, and all whom you loved, together with all whom you hated; and I will gather them against you from round about, and I will uncover your nakedness to them, and they will see all your nakedness.

And I will judge you with the justice of women who commit adultery and pour out blood, and I will put on you the blood of rage and jealousy.

I will give you into their hand, and they will tear down your mound and break down your high places; they will strip you of your garments and take the articles of your splendor, and leave you naked and bare.

They will bring up an assembly against you and stone you with stones, and cut you to pieces with their swords.

They will burn your houses with fire, and carry out judgments on you before the eyes of many women; and I will make you cease from prostituting, and also you will not give hire again.

And I will let my rage rest on you, and my jealousy will turn aside from you; and I will be quiet, and I will not be angry again.

Because you did not remember the days of your youth, but shook with rage against me in all these things, look, I too have set your way on your head — the utterance of the Adonai Yahweh. Did you not do the depravity on top of all your abominations?

Look, everyone who uses proverbs will use a proverb about you, saying: As the mother, so her daughter.

You are the daughter of your mother, who rejected her husband and her sons, and the sister of your sisters, who rejected their husbands and their sons; your mother was a Hittite and your father an Amorite.

And your older sister is Samaria, she and her daughters, who dwells on your left; and your younger sister, who dwells on your right, is Sodom and her daughters.

And you did not walk in their ways, nor did you do their abominations; it was only a little thing, and you were more corrupt than they in all your ways.

As I live, the utterance of the Adonai Yahweh, Sodom your sister has surely not done, she and her daughters, as you have done, you and your daughters.

Behold, this was the guilt of Sodom your sister: pride, fullness of food, and the ease of quiet belonged to her and to her daughters, but the hand of the poor and needy she did not strengthen.

They were haughty and made abomination before my face, and I removed them when I saw.

And Samaria did not sin even half of your sins; you multiplied your abominations more than they did, and you made your sisters appear righteous by all your abominations that you did.

You also, bear your disgrace, you who mediated for your sister; in your sins, in which you acted abominably more than they, they are more righteous than you. You also, be ashamed and bear your disgrace, in your making your sisters appear righteous.

And I will turn back their captivity, the captivity of Sodom and her daughters, and the captivity of Samaria and her daughters, and the captivity of your captives in the midst of them,

so that you may bear your disgrace and be ashamed of all that you did, in your comforting them.

And your sisters, Sodom and her daughters, will return to their former state, and Samaria and her daughters will return to their former state, and you and your daughters will return to your former state.

And was not Sodom your sister a report in your mouth in the day of your pride,

before your evil was uncovered, like the time of the reproach of the daughters of Aram and all that is around her, the daughters of the Philistines, those who despise you from all around?

You yourself bear your depravity and your abominations, the utterance of Yahweh.

For this is what the Adonai Yahweh said: I will deal with you as you have done, you who despised the oath by breaking the covenant.

But I myself will remember my covenant with you in the days of your youth, and I will establish for you a covenant forever.

And you will remember your ways and be ashamed, when you take your sisters, from those older than you to those younger than you, and I will give them to you as daughters, but not out of your covenant.

And I myself will establish my covenant with you, and you will know that I am Yahweh.

so that you may remember and be ashamed, and never again have an opening of the mouth because of your disgrace, when I cover for you all that you did, the utterance of the Adonai Yahweh.
