¹And the word of Yahweh came to me, saying:

²Son of man, what is the wood of the vine more than any wood, the vine branch that is among the trees of the forest?

³Is wood taken from it to make into some work? Or do they take a peg from it to hang any utensil on it?

⁴Look, it is given to the fire for consuming; the fire has eaten both its ends, and its middle is scorched. Will it succeed for work?

⁵Look, when it was whole, it was not made into work; how much more when a fire has eaten it and it is scorched, can it still be made into work?

⁶Therefore thus says the Adonai Yahweh: As the wood of the vine among the trees of the forest, which I have given it to the fire for consuming, so I give the dwellers of Jerusalem.

⁷And I will set my face against them: from the fire they have come out, but the fire will eat them; and you will know that I am Yahweh when I set my face against them.

⁸And I will make the land a wasteland, because they acted treacherously with a treacherous act, the utterance of the Adonai Yahweh.
