Exodus9

Yahweh said to Moses, "Go to Pharaoh and speak to him, 'This is what Yahweh, the God of the Eberites, says: Let my people go, so that they may serve me.

For if you refuse to let them go, and still keep hold of them,

look, the hand of Yahweh will be on your livestock which is in the field, on the horses, on the donkeys, on the camels, on the cattle, and on the flock, an exceedingly severe pestilence.

But Yahweh will make a separation between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt, and not one word of all that belongs to the children of Israel will die.'"

Yahweh appointed a time, saying, "Tomorrow Yahweh will do this word in the land."

Yahweh did this word the next day, and all the livestock of the Egyptians died, but of the livestock of the children of Israel not one died.

Pharaoh sent, and look, not one of the livestock of Israel had died; but the heart of Pharaoh was unresponsive, and did not let the people go.

Yahweh said to Moses and to Aaron, "Take for yourselves the fullness of your handfuls of soot from a furnace, and let Moses sprinkle it toward the skies before the eyes of Pharaoh.

And it will become dust over all the land of Egypt, and it will be on man and on livestock as boils budding into blisters in all the land of Egypt."

So they took the soot of the furnace and stood before the face of Pharaoh, and Moses sprinkled it toward the skies, and it became boils budding into blisters on man and on livestock.

And the magicians could not stand before the face of Moses because of the boils, for the boils were on the magicians and on all the Egyptians.

But Yahweh hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he did not listen to them, as Yahweh had spoken to Moses.

Yahweh said to Moses, "Rise early in the morning and take your stand before the face of Pharaoh and say to him, 'This is what Yahweh, the God of the Eberites, says: Let my people go, so that they may serve me.

For this time I will send all my plagues to your heart and on your slaves and on your people, so that you may know that there is none like me in all the land.

For now I could have stretched out my hand and struck you and your people with the pestilence, and you would have been wiped out from the land.

But for the sake of this I have made you stand, in order to show you my strength, and so that my name may be recounted in all the land.

You still lift yourself up against my people, so as not to let them go.

Look, about this time tomorrow I will rain down a hail, exceedingly severe, such as has not been in Egypt from the day it was founded until now.

And now, send and bring your livestock into safety, and all that you have in the field; every man and livestock that is found in the field and is not gathered into the house, the hail will come down on them, and they will die.'"

Whoever feared the word of Yahweh among the slaves of Pharaoh hurried his slaves and his livestock into the houses.

But whoever did not take the word of Yahweh to heart left his slaves and his livestock in the field.

Yahweh said to Moses, "Stretch out your hand over the skies, and let there be hail in all the land of Egypt, on man and on livestock and on all the grass of the field in the land of Egypt."

Moses stretched out his staff over the skies, and Yahweh set sounds and hail, and fire went toward the land, and Yahweh rained down hail over the land of Egypt.

There was hail, and fire taking hold in the middle of the hail, exceedingly severe, such as had not been in all the land of Egypt from the time it became a nation.

The hail struck in all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, from man to livestock; and all the grass of the field the hail struck, and all the trees of the field it shattered.

Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, there was no hail.

Pharaoh sent and called to Moses and to Aaron and said to them, "This time I have sinned; Yahweh is the righteous, and I and my people are the wicked."

Pray to Yahweh, for there is too much of the sounds of God and hail; and I will let you go, and you will not continue to stay."

Moses said to him, "As I go out of the city, I will spread out my palms to Yahweh; the sounds will cease and the hail will be no more, so that you may know that the land is Yahweh's."

But as for you and your slaves, I know that you do not yet fear before the face of Yahweh God."

And the flax and the barley were struck, for the barley was in ear and the flax in blossom.

But the wheat and the spelt were not struck, for they are late.

Moses went forth from Pharaoh out of the city and spread abroad his palms to Yahweh, and the sounds and the hail ceased, and the rain was not poured forth on the land.

When Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the sounds had ceased, he repeated his sin and made his heart heavy, he and his slaves.

Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he did not send the children of Israel, as Yahweh had spoken by the hand of Moses.
