Yahweh said to Moses: Cut for yourself two tablets of stone like the first ones, and I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you shattered.
Be ready for the morning, and go up in the morning to the mountain of Sinai, and take your stand for me there on the top of the mountain.
No one is to go up with you, and also no one is to be seen on the whole mountain; even the flock and the herd are not to graze in front of that mountain.
He cut two tablets of stone like the first ones; and Moses rose early in the morning and went up to the mountain of Sinai, as Yahweh had commanded him, and he took two tablets of stone in his hand.
Yahweh came down in the cloud and took his stand with him there, and proclaimed the name of Yahweh.
Yahweh passed by before him and proclaimed, "Yahweh, Yahweh, a God compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, great in loyal love and faithfulness."
keeping loyal love for thousands, bearing guilt and transgression and sin, yet he will certainly not leave unpunished, visiting the guilt of the fathers on the children, and on the children of the children, on the third generation and on the fourth generation.
Moses hurried, and bowed his head to the land, and bowed down.
He said, “If I have now found favor in your eyes, O Lord, please let my Lord go among us, for it is a hard-necked people; and forgive our guilt and our sin, and take us as your possession.”
He said, “Look, I am cutting a covenant: before all your people I will do wonders such as have not been created in all the land or among all the nations; and all the people in whose midst you are will see the work of Yahweh, for it is awesome, what I am doing with you.”
Keep for yourself what I am commanding you today: look, I am driving out from before your face the Amorite, the Canaanite, the Hittite, the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite.
Guard yourself, lest you cut a covenant with the dwellers of the land which you are about to come into, lest it become a snare in your midst.
But their altars you are to pull down, and their standing pillars you are to shatter, and their Asherah poles you are to cut down.
For you must not bow down to another god, for Yahweh—Jealous is his name—he is a jealous God.
Lest you cut a covenant with the dwellers of the land, and they prostitute themselves after their gods, and sacrifice to their gods, and one calls to you, and you eat some of his sacrifice.
And you take some of their daughters for your sons, and their daughters prostitute themselves after their gods, and make your sons prostitute themselves after their gods.
You must not make for yourself gods of cast metal.
The festival of unleavened bread you are to keep: seven days you are to eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, at the appointed time of the month of the young ears; for in the month of the young ears you came out of Egypt.
Every firstborn of the womb is mine, and every male of your livestock, the firstborn of ox and sheep.
And the firstborn of a donkey you are to ransom with a sheep; and if you do not ransom it, you are to break its neck. Every firstborn of your sons you are to ransom; and none are to appear before my face empty-handed.
Six days you are to work, and on the seventh day you are to cease; at plowing time and at harvest time you are to cease.
And you are to celebrate for yourself the festival of weeks, the firstfruits of the wheat harvest, and the festival of the ingathering at the circuit of the year.
Three times in the year every one of your males is to appear before the face of the Adonai Yahweh, the God of Israel.
For I will dispossess nations from before your face, and I will widen your boundary; and no one will covet your land, when you go up to appear before the face of Yahweh your God three times in the year.
You must not slaughter the blood of my sacrifice with leaven; and the sacrifice of the festival of the Passover must not stay the night until morning.
The first of the firstfruits of your ground you are to bring to the house of Yahweh your God. You must not cook a kid in the milk of its mother.
Yahweh said to Moses, “Write for yourself these words, for according to the mouth of these words I have cut a covenant with you and with Israel.”
He was there with Yahweh forty days and forty nights; he ate no bread and drank no water; and he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the ten words.
And it happened, when Moses came down from the mountain of Sinai, with the two tablets of the testimony in the hand of Moses as he came down from the mountain, that Moses did not know that the skin of his face had sent out horns of light because he had spoken with him.
Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, and look, the skin of his face had sent out horns of light; and they were afraid to draw near to him.
Moses called to them, and Aaron and all the chiefs in the congregation returned to him; and Moses spoke to them.
And after that all the children of Israel drew near, and he commanded them everything that Yahweh had spoken with him on the mountain of Sinai.
Moses finished speaking with them, and he put a veil over his face.
And whenever Moses went in before the face of Yahweh to speak with him, he would remove the veil until he came out; and he would go out and speak to the children of Israel what he had been commanded.
And the children of Israel would see the face of Moses, that the skin of the face of Moses had sent out horns of light; and Moses would put the veil back over his face until he went in to speak with him.
