Exodus20

And God spoke all these words, saying:

I am Yahweh your God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt, from the house of slaves.

There are to be no other gods for you in my presence.

You will not make for yourself an idol, or any form that is in the skies above, or that is on the land beneath, or that is in the waters under the land.

You will not bow down to them, and you will not serve them; for I, Yahweh your God, am a jealous God, visiting the guilt of the fathers on children, on the third and on the fourth generation, of those who hate me;

and doing loyal love to thousands, to those who love me and to those who keep my commandments.

You will not lift up the name of Yahweh your God for emptiness; for Yahweh will not leave unpunished the one who lifts up his name for emptiness.

Remember the day of the sabbath, to set it apart.

Six days you will labor, and you will do all your work;

but the seventh day is a sabbath to Yahweh your God; you will not do any work, you, your son, your daughter, your slave, your maidservant, your livestock, and your sojourner who is within your gates.

For in six days Yahweh made the skies and the land, the sea, and all that is in them, and he settled on the seventh day; therefore Yahweh blessed the day of the sabbath and set it apart.

Honor your father and your mother, so that your days grow long on the ground that Yahweh your God is giving you.

You are not to murder.

You will not commit adultery.

You will not steal.

You will not testify against your neighbor as a witness of falsehood.

You will not desire the house of your neighbor; you will not desire the wife of your neighbor, nor his slave, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that belongs to your neighbor.

And all the people were seeing the sounds and the torches and the sound of the horn and the mountain smoking; and the people saw it, and they trembled, and they stood at a distance.

And they said to Moses, "You speak with us, and we will hear; but do not let God speak with us, or we will die."

And Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid, for God has come in order to test you, and so that his fear may be upon your faces, so that you do not sin."

And the people stood at a distance, and Moses drew near to the heavy cloud where God was.

And Yahweh said to Moses: Like this you will say to the children of Israel, You saw that from the heavens I spoke with you.

You will not make gods of silver alongside me, and gods of gold you will not make for yourselves.

Make an altar of ground for me, and sacrifice on it your burnt offerings and your peace offerings, your flock and your cattle. In every place where I cause my name to be remembered, I will come to you and I will bless you.

And if you make an altar of stones for me, you must not build them cut; for you wield your sword over it and you profane it.

And you must not go up by steps to my altar, so that your nakedness is not uncovered on it.
