And all the congregation of the children of Israel set out from the wilderness of Sin by their stages, as the mouth of Yahweh directed, and camped at Rephidim; and there was no water for the people to drink.
And the people contended with Moses and said: Give us water, so that we may drink. And Moses said to them: Why do you contend with me? Why do you test Yahweh?
And the people were thirsty there for water, and the people complained against Moses and said: Why is it that you brought us up from Egypt, to put to death me, my sons, and my livestock with thirst?
And Moses cried to Yahweh saying: What will I make to this people? Again a little and they stone me.
And Yahweh said to Moses: Pass over to the face of the people, and take with you from the elders of Israel, and your staff which you struck in it the Channel, take in your hand, and you will go.
Here I am standing before you there on the rock at Horeb. Strike the rock, and water will come out of it, and the people will drink. And Moses did so before the eyes of the elders of Israel.
And he called the name of the place Massah and Meribah, because of the strife of the children of Israel, and because they put Yahweh to the test, saying: Is Yahweh in our midst or not?
And Amalek came and fought against Israel at Rephidim.
And Moses said to Joshua: Choose to us men and go forth, fight in Amalek; to come, I station over the head of the hill, and the staff of God in my hand.
And Joshua did as Moses had said to him, fighting against Amalek; and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
And it happened that whenever Moses lifted his hand high, Israel prevailed, and whenever he let his hand rest, Amalek prevailed.
But Moses' hands grew heavy, so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it; and Aaron and Hur held up his hands, one on this side and one on that, so his hands were steady until sunset.
And Joshua overthrew Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
And Yahweh said to Moses: Write this a memorial in the record, and put in the ears of Joshua, that surely I will wipe the memorial of Amalek from under the skies.
And Moses built an altar and called its name Yahweh Is My Banner.
And he said: For a hand is on the throne of Yahweh: war belongs to Yahweh against Amalek, from generation to generation.
