Exodus14

Yahweh spoke to Moses, saying,

"Speak to the children of Israel, and let them return and encamp before Pi-ha-chiroth, between Migdol and the sea; before Baal-tsephon, in front of it, you will encamp beside the sea.

Pharaoh will say of the children of Israel, 'They are bewildered in the land; the wilderness has shut them in.'

I will harden the heart of Pharaoh, and he will run after them, and I will gain honor through Pharaoh and all his army, and the Egyptians will know that I am Yahweh." And they did so.

It was told to the king of Egypt that the people had fled, and the heart of Pharaoh and his servants was turned against the people, and they said, "What is this we have done, that we have sent Israel away from serving us?"

He harnessed his chariot and took his people with him.

He took six hundred chosen chariots, and all the chariotry of Egypt, with officers over all of it.

Yahweh hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he ran after the children of Israel, as the children of Israel were going out with a high hand.

The Egyptians ran after them, all the horses of Pharaoh's chariotry, his horsemen and his army, and overtook them camping by the sea, beside Pi-hahiroth, before Baal-zephon.

And Pharaoh neared, and the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and look, the Egyptians set out after them; and they were exceedingly afraid, and the children of Israel cried to Yahweh.

And they said to Moses, "Is it from there being no sepulchres in Egypt that you took us to die in the wilderness? What is this you made to us, to bring us forth from Egypt?

"Is this not the word which we spoke to you in Egypt: 'Leave off from us, and let us serve the Egyptians'? For it is better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness."

Moses said to the people, "Do not be afraid; stand and see the deliverance of Yahweh which he will make to you this day; for the Egyptians whom you saw this day, you will never again see them forever.

Yahweh will fight for you, and you will keep silent."

Yahweh said to Moses, "What is this you cry to me? Speak to the children of Israel, and let them set out.

As for you, raise your staff high, and stretch out your hand over the sea and split it, and let the children of Israel come into the middle of the sea on dry ground.

And I, here I am hardening the heart of the Egyptians, and they will come after them; and I will gain honor through Pharaoh and all his army, his chariotry and his horsemen.

The Egyptians will know that I am Yahweh when I gain honor through Pharaoh, his chariotry, and his horsemen."

The messenger of God, who had been going before the face of the camp of Israel, set out and went behind them; and the pillar of cloud set out from before their face and stood behind them.

It came between the camp of Egypt and the camp of Israel; and there was the cloud and the darkness, and it lit up the night, and the one did not draw near the other all night.

Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and Yahweh drove the sea away by a strong east wind all night, and made the sea into dry ground, and the waters were split.

The children of Israel went into the middle of the sea on dry ground, and the waters were a wall for them on their right and on their left.

The Egyptians pursued and went in after them, all of Pharaoh's horses, his chariotry and his horsemen, into the middle of the sea.

And it was in the watch of the morning, Yahweh looked down to the camp of the Egyptians in the pillar of fire and cloud, and threw the camp of the Egyptians into confusion.

He removed the wheels of its chariots and made them drive with difficulty; and Egypt said, "Let me flee from the face of Israel, for Yahweh is fighting for them against Egypt."

Yahweh said to Moses, "stretch your hand over the sea, and let the waters return over Egypt, over his chariots and over his horsemen."

And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and the sea returned at the turning of morning to its steady flow; and Egypt fled to meet it, and Yahweh shook off Egypt in the middle of the sea.

And the waters returned and covered the chariots and the horsemen of the whole army of Pharaoh, those who came after them into the sea; not one of them was left.

And the children of Israel walked on dry ground in the middle of the sea, and the waters were a wall for them on their right and on their left.

Yahweh saved Israel on that day from the hand of Egypt, and Israel saw Egypt dead on the edge of the sea.

And Israel saw the great hand that Yahweh did against Egypt, and the people feared Yahweh; and they believed in Yahweh and in Moses his slave.
