Exodus12

And Yahweh said to Moses and to Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,

"This month is the head of the months for you; it is the first for you of the months of the year.

Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying, On the tenth of this month let them take for themselves, each man, a sheep for a fathers' house, a sheep for the household.

And if the household is too small for a sheep, then he and his neighbor nearest to his house will take it, by the number of the living beings; each man, according to the mouth of his food, you will calculate for the sheep.

A sheep, unblemished, male, a son of a year will be for you; from the lambs and from the goats you will take it.

And it will be for you to guard until the fourteenth day of this month; and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel will slaughter it between the two evenings.

And they will take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel, on the houses in which they will eat it.

And they will eat the flesh on this night, roasted by fire, and unleavened bread; with bitter herbs they will eat it.

Do not eat any of it raw, or boiled, cooked in water; but roasted in fire, its head along with its legs and along with its entrails.

And you will not leave over any of it until morning; and what is left over of it until morning you will burn with fire.

And thus you will eat it: your loins girded, your sandals on your feet, your staff in your hand; and you will eat it in haste. It is a Passover to Yahweh.

I will pass through the land of Egypt on this night, and I will strike every firstborn in the land of Egypt, from man to livestock; and on all the gods of Egypt I will make judgments. I am Yahweh.

And the blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are; and I will see the blood and pass limping over you, and no blow will be among you for destruction, when I strike the land of Egypt.

And this day will be a memorial for you, and you will celebrate it as a festival to Yahweh; throughout your generations, as a statute forever, you will celebrate it.

Seven days you will eat unleavened bread; only on the first day you will make leaven cease from your houses; for anyone who eats what is leavened, that being will be cut off from Israel, from the first day until the seventh day.

And on the first day a holy convocation, and on the seventh day a holy convocation will be for you; no work will be done on them; only what is eaten by every being, that alone will be done by you.

And you will keep the unleavened bread, for on this very day I brought out your hosts from the land of Egypt; and you will keep this day throughout your generations, a statute forever.

In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month, in the evening, you will eat unleavened bread, until the twenty-first day of the month, in the evening.

Seven days no leaven will be found in your houses; for anyone who eats what is leavened, that being will be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether a sojourner or one born of the land.

You will not eat anything leavened; in all your dwelling places you will eat unleavened bread.

Moses called to all the elders of Israel and said to them, "Draw out and take for yourselves an animal of the flock for your families, and slaughter the Passover.

And you will take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and touch the lintel and the two doorposts with some of the blood that is in the basin; and none of you will go out from the doorway of his house until morning.

And Yahweh will pass through to strike Egypt, and he will see the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, and Yahweh will pass limping over the doorway and will not allow the ruiner to come into your houses to strike.

And you will keep this word as a statute for you and for your sons forever.

And it will be, when you come into the land that Yahweh will give you, as he spoke, you will keep this service.

And it will be, when your sons say to you, 'What is this service to you?'

you will say, 'It is a sacrifice of Passover to Yahweh, who passed limping over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt when he struck Egypt, and he rescued our houses.'" And the people bowed their heads and bowed down.

And the children of Israel went and did, just as Yahweh had commanded Moses and Aaron; so they did.

And it was in the middle of the night, and Yahweh struck every firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh who sits on his throne to the firstborn of the prisoner who was in the house of the pit, and every firstborn of livestock.

Pharaoh rose in the night, he and all his slaves and all Egypt; and there was a great cry in Egypt, for there was no house where there was not one dead.

He called to Moses and to Aaron in the night and said, "Rise, go out from the middle of my people, both you, and also the children of Israel; and go, serve Yahweh as you have spoken.

Also your flocks, also your cattle, take, as you have spoken, and go; and bless me also."

And Egypt pressed strongly upon the people, to hurry to send them away from the land, for they said, "We are all dying."

And the people carried their dough before it was leavened, their kneading-troughs bound up in their garments on their shoulders.

And the children of Israel did according to the word of Moses, and asked of Egypt for articles of silver and articles of gold and garments.

And Yahweh gave the people favor in the eyes of Egypt, and they granted them what they asked; and they stripped Egypt.

And the children of Israel set out from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot, the men alone, apart from the children.

And also a great mixed company went up with them, and flocks and cattle, livestock exceedingly numerous.

And they baked the dough that they had brought out of Egypt into cakes of unleavened bread, for it had not leavened; for they had been driven out of Egypt, and they could not linger; and also they had not made provisions for themselves.

The dwelling of the children of Israel, who dwelt in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years.

And it was at the end of four hundred and thirty years, that on this very day all the hosts of Yahweh went out from the land of Egypt.

It is a night of vigils to Yahweh for bringing them forth from the land of Egypt; this is that night to Yahweh, vigils for all the children of Israel through their generations.

Yahweh said to Moses and Aaron, "This is the statute of the Passover: no son of a foreigner will eat of it.

And every slave of a man, bought with silver, once you have circumcised him, then he may eat of it.

A resident and a hired man will not eat of it.

In one house it will be eaten; you will not bring out any of the flesh outside the house, and you will not break a bone of it.

All the congregation of Israel will observe it.

And if a sojourner sojourns with you and would observe a Passover to Yahweh, every male of his must be circumcised; then he may come near to observe it, and he will be like one native to the land; but no uncircumcised one may eat of it.

One instruction will be for the native and for the sojourner who sojourns in your midst."

And all the children of Israel did just as Yahweh had commanded Moses and Aaron; so they did.

And it came about on the very day that Yahweh brought the children of Israel out from the land of Egypt, by their hosts.
