Deuteronomy8

All the commandments that I am commanding you today you will keep by doing them, so that you may live and multiply and go in and take possession of the land that Yahweh swore to your fathers.

And you will remember all the way that Yahweh your God led you these forty years in the wilderness, so as to humble you, to test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep his commandments or not.

He humbled you, and let you go hungry, and fed you the manna, which you had not known, and your fathers had not known, so as to make you know that not on bread alone does the human live; but on everything that comes out of the mouth of Yahweh does the human live.

Your garment did not wear out from off you, and your foot did not swell, these forty years.

And you will know with your heart that, just as a man disciplines his son, Yahweh your God is disciplining you.

You will keep the commandments of Yahweh your God, by walking in his ways, and by fearing him.

For Yahweh your God is bringing you into a good land, a land of wadis of water, springs and deeps coming out in the valley and on the mountain.

a land of wheat and barley and vine and fig tree and pomegranate, a land of olive oil and honey,

a land where you will eat food without poverty, you will lack nothing in it, a land whose stones are iron and from whose mountains you will hew bronze.

And you will eat and be satisfied, and you will bless Yahweh your God for the good land that he gave you.

Guard yourself, lest you forget Yahweh your God by not keeping his commandments and his justice and his statutes, which I am commanding you today.

lest you eat and be satisfied, and build good houses and dwell,

and your cattle and your flock multiply, and silver and gold multiply for you, and everything that is yours multiplies,

and your heart is lifted high, and you forget Yahweh your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slaves,

who goes you in the great wilderness, and who makes afraid, snake seraph and scorpion, and a thirsty land which there is no waters, who brings forth to you waters from the rock of the flint,

who fed you manna in the wilderness, which your fathers had not known, in order to afflict you and in order to test you, to do you good in your latter end.

And you will say in your heart, My strength and the might of my hand has acquired for me this wealth.

And you will remember Yahweh your God, for it is he who gives you strength to acquire wealth, so as to establish his covenant which he swore to your fathers, as at this day.

And it will be, if you indeed forget Yahweh your God, and walk after other gods and serve them and bow down to them, I testify against you today, that you will surely perish.

Like the nations that Yahweh is causing to perish from before your face, so you will perish, because you will not listen to the voice of Yahweh your God.
