Give ear, O skies, and I will speak; and let the land hear the words of my mouth.
My instruction will drip like the rain, my word will stream like the dew, like rains on the grass and like showers on the herbage.
For I will proclaim the name of Yahweh; give greatness to our God.
The rock, his work is complete, for all his ways are justice; a God of steadiness, and there is no injustice; righteous and upright is he.
They have acted corruptly toward him; not his children, their blemish: a generation twisted and tortuous.
Do you deal with Yahweh in this way, O foolish people and not wise? Is it not he, your father, who acquired you? He made you and established you?
Remember the days of forever; consider the years of generation after generation; ask your father, and he will tell you; your old ones, and they will say to you.
When the Most High gave an inheritance to the nations, when he divided the children of man, he fixed the borders of the peoples by the number of the children of Israel.
For Yahweh's portion is his people; Jacob is the measured portion of his inheritance.
He found him in a wilderness land, in the formless howling of a wasteland; he went around him, he attended to him, he guarded him like the pupil of his eye.
Like an eagle rousing its nest, hovering over its young, it spreads out its wings, takes him, carries him on its pinion.
Yahweh alone guided him, and there was no foreign god with him.
He made him ride on the high places of the land, so he ate the produce of the field; he suckled him with honey from the crag, and oil from the flint of the rock.
Curds of the herd and milk of the flock, with the fat of lambs and rams, sons of Bashan, and of goats, with the fat of the kidneys of wheat; and the blood of the grape you drank, fermenting wine.
Jeshurun grew fat and kicked; you grew fat, you grew bloated, you grew gorged. He abandoned God who made him, and treated with contempt the Rock of his deliverance.
They made him jealous with strangers, with abominations they provoked him to anger.
They sacrificed to demons, to what is not God, to gods they did not know, new ones that came from nearby, which your fathers did not shudder at.
The Rock who fathered you, you forgot; you forgot God, who writhed in labor to bring you forth.
Yahweh saw, and he spurned them, because of the vexation of his sons and his daughters.
He said: I will hide my face from them, I will see what their end will be; for they are a generation of perversities, children in whom there is no faithfulness.
They made me jealous with what is not God, they provoked me to anger with their empty vapors; so I will make them jealous with what is not a people, with a foolish nation I will provoke them to anger.
For a fire has been kindled in my anger, and it burns to the lowest Sheol; it eats the land and its produce, and sets ablaze the foundations of the mountains.
I will heap up evils upon them; I will use up my arrows on them.
Sucked dry by famine, devoured by flame and bitter destruction; and the tooth of beasts I will send among them, with the venom of things that crawl in the dust.
Outside, the sword makes childless, and from the inner rooms comes terror; both the young man and the virgin, the suckling with the man of gray hair.
I said: I will cut them to pieces, I will make their memory cease from among mankind.
Were it not that I dreaded the vexation of the enemy, lest their opponents fail to recognize it, lest they say: Our hand is high, and it was not Yahweh who did all this.
For they are a nation whose counsel has perished, and there is no understanding in them.
If only they were wise, they would act wisely in this, they would understand their end.
How could one chase a thousand, and two put ten thousand to flight, unless their rock sold them, and Yahweh delivered them up?
For their rock is not like our rock, and our enemies are judges.
For their vine is from the vine of Sodom, and from the fields of Gomorrah; their grapes are grapes of poison, their clusters are bitter.
Their wine is the venom of serpents, and the cruel poison of cobras.
Is it not stored up with me, sealed in my storehouses?
Vengeance and recompense are mine, for the time when their foot slips; for the day of their disaster is near, and what lies ready for them hastens.
For Yahweh will vindicate his people, and have compassion on his servants, when he sees that the hand is spent, and there is none held back or let go.
He will say: Where are their gods, the rock in which they took refuge,
who ate the fat of their sacrifices and drank the wine of their drink offering? Let them rise up and help you; let there be a hiding place over you.
See now that I, I am he, and there is no God with me; I put to death and I make alive; I have shattered, and I will heal; and there is no deliverer from my hand.
For I will lift up my hand to the heavens, and I will say: I live forever.
If I sharpen the lightning of my sword, and my hand takes hold of justice, I will return vengeance to my enemies, and I will repay those who hate me.
I will make my arrows drunk with blood, and my sword will eat flesh: with the blood of the slain and the captives, from the head of the enemy's leaders.
Shout for joy, nations, with his people, for he will avenge the blood of his servants, and he will return vengeance to his enemies, and he will cover his ground, his people.
And Moses came and spoke all the words of this song in the ears of the people, he and Hoshea son of Nun.
And Moses completed speaking all these words to all Israel,
and he said to them: Set your heart on all the words that I am warning you about today, which you will command your sons, to keep and to do all the words of this instruction.
For it is not an empty word for you, for it is your life; and by this word you will prolong days on the ground to which you are crossing the Jordan, to take possession of it.
And Yahweh spoke to Moses on this very day, saying:
Go up to this mountain of the Abarim, the mountain of Nebo, which is in the land of Moab, which faces Jericho, and see the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the children of Israel as a possession.
and die on the mountain where you are going up, and be gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother died on Hor, the mountain, and was gathered to his people,
because you acted unfaithfully against me in the midst of the children of Israel at the waters of Meribath Kadesh, in the wilderness of Zin, because you did not set me apart as holy in the midst of the children of Israel.
For from in front you will see the land, but there you will not come into the land which I am giving to the children of Israel.
