If a prophet arises in your midst, or a dreamer of a dream, and he gives you a sign or a wonder,
and the sign or the wonder comes, of which he spoke to you, saying, Let us walk after other gods whom you have not known, and let us serve them,
you will not listen to the words of that prophet or to that dreamer of the dream, for Yahweh your God is testing you, to know whether you love Yahweh your God with all your heart and with all your being.
After Yahweh your God you will walk, and him you will fear, and his commandments you will keep, and to his voice you will listen, and him you will serve, and to him you will cleave.
And that prophet or that dreamer of the dream will be put to death, for he has spoken rebellion against Yahweh your God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt and ransomed you from the house of slaves, to thrust you aside from the way that Yahweh your God commanded you to walk in; and you will burn out the evil from your midst.
If your brother, the son of your mother, or your son, or your daughter, or the wife of your bosom, or your neighbor who is like your being, entices you in secret, saying, Let us go and serve other gods whom you have not known, you and your fathers,
from among the gods of the peoples that are all around you, near to you or far from you, from one end of the land to the other end of the land,
you will not consent to him, and you will not listen to him, and your eye will not look with pity on him, and you will not spare, and you will not cover over him.
But you will surely kill him; your hand will be on him first to put him to death, and the hand of all the people last.
And you will stone him with stones, and he will die, for he sought to thrust you away from Yahweh your God, who brought you out from the land of Egypt, from the house of slaves.
And all Israel will hear and be afraid, and they will not again do anything like this evil word in your midst.
If you hear, in one of your cities that Yahweh your God is giving you to dwell there, saying,
Men, sons of worthlessness, have gone out from your midst and have misled the dwellers of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods whom you have not known,
then you will inquire and search and ask well; and look, it is truth, the word is established, this abomination has been done in your midst.
You will surely strike the dwellers of that city with the edge of the sword, devoting it to destruction, and all that is in it, and its livestock, with the edge of the sword.
And all its plunder you will gather together into the middle of its broad place, and you will burn the city and all its plunder entirely in the fire for Yahweh your God; and it will be a mound forever, it will not be built again.
And not a speck of the devoted thing will cling to your hand, so that Yahweh may turn from the burning of his anger and give you compassion and have compassion on you and multiply you, as he swore to your fathers,
if you listen to the voice of Yahweh your God, keeping all his commandments that I am commanding you today, doing what is right in the eyes of Yahweh your God.
